A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ANAHEIM ADOPTING THE 13TH MARINE EXPEDITIONARY
UNIT OF THE UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS BASED AT
CAMP PENDLETON, CALIFORNIA, ESTABLISHING THE
ANAHEIM 13TH MARINE EXPEDITIONARY UNIT ADOPTION
COMMITTEE, AND PROVIDING SUPPORT THEREFOR.
WHEREAS, the City of Anaheim is grateful for the men and women who serve our
Nation as members of the United States Armed Forces and who are engaged in defending the
freedoms and principles we as Americans hold sacred; and
WHEREAS, the City of Anaheim wishes to show its support and appreciation to all
members of the United States Armed Forces for their brave and valiant service to our Country; and
WHEREAS, the City of Anaheim has been made aware of a United States Marine
Corps program which gives communities the opportunity to show their support and appreciation to
our men and women in uniform and their families by the "adoption "of a specific Marine Corps unit;
and
WHEREAS, this program serves as a catalyst by facilitating and channeling
community support for military personnel and their families; and
WHEREAS, the City of Anaheim has a long history of enthusiastic community
involvement and dedicated volunteerism to support programs for the betterment of the City and the
community; and
WHEREAS, the City of Anaheim is pleased and honored to participate in a
community -wide effort in support of the men and women in military service and their families, and
hereby calls upon community leaders, residents, businesses, service clubs, nonprofit organizations,
and others to become involved in supporting our military personnel and their families; and
WHEREAS, the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (the "13th MEU commanded by
Colonel Sam Mundy, at Camp Pendleton, California, consists of approximately 200 Marines and
sailors and is expanding to approximately 2,200 Marines and sailors as the Unit readies for
deployment as a self contained assault force; and
WHEREAS, the 13th MEU has expressed an interest in participating in the USMC
adoption program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ANAHEIM AS FOLLOWS:
1. That the City of Anaheim hereby formally adopt the 13th Marine
Expeditionary Unit; and
2. That the City staff is directed to assist Anaheim residents in establishing the
Anaheim 13th MEU Adoption Committee; and
3. That the City staff is further directed to provide initial administrative support
for committee recruitment and meetings; and
4. That the City staff is further directed to provide non monetary logistical
support and administrative support for the foregoing not to exceed a one -time amount of $5,000.
THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION is approved and adopted by the City Council of
the City of Anaheim this 9TH day of October 2007, by the following roll call vote:
