1.CALL TO ORDER: The meeting of the Cultural and Heritage Commission was called to order by Chair
Larsen at 6:32p.m.
2.SCHEDULED PRESENTATION: None.
3.UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION:None.
4.APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Commissioner Maya made a motion to approve the minutes for the October 21,
2010 meeting; Commissioner Deneau made a second and the motion passed.
5.GALLERIESSUBCOMMITTEE: Commissioner Mayareported that the subcommittee has not met since the
previous commission meeting. Commissioner Mayaalso commented on the success of the “Viva de los
Muertos” exhibit. Commissioner Jabbar commented that he will be referring a group of Sri Lankan artists for a
future show in the DTCC Gallery.Commissioner Castillo reported on the Promenade Gallery’s upcoming show
Soft Opening
by David Kooi which is sculpture in copper with photo-etching and paintings by William Zdan. The
will be December 11, 2010,from 7 -11 p.m. An Early Premier will be held December 4, 2010,during the
Downtown Tree Lighting Ceremony. The Commission discussed having aGrand Opening of the Promenade
Gallery on February 12, 2011,from 6 -10 p.m. This Grand Opening will be part of a Progressive Art Event in
Downtown Anaheim co-sponsored by the Downtown Anaheim Association. The concept discussed is that the
Downtown Anaheim Community Center Gallery will have an opening reception 5–8p.m.,followed by the
Promenade Gallery 6–10p.m.,andending with the Rothick Art Haus 7-11p.m. hopes

to also get the Rothick Project Space Gallery for photography going by then.
Commissioner Castillo also will try
to get Sarah Bain on board, maybe organize some docents to operate tours, and possibly to have transportation

Association. Chair Larsen also requested that staff include Andrea Manes with the Anaheim Bulletin in the
distribution of invitations and press releases for Gallery openings.
6.EVENTS SUB-COMMITTTEE: Commissioner Mayarecommended Commissioner Benedict for this new
subcommittee. Commissioner Jabbar volunteered to be a member of this subcommittee. The subcommittee will
meet on Sunday,December 12, 2010,at Ruby’s on Lincoln Avenue in Anaheim at 11 a.m. to plan the
Progressive Art Event.
5.ART FACILITIES SUBCOMMITTEE: Commissioner Deneau stated that he plans to bringthe draft Report on
Cultural Facilities in the City of Anaheim back to the Commission in January 2011.

B.Commissioner Castillo:Commissioner Castillo commented on thesuccess of the “Shimmer & Rot” show at
the Rothick Art Haus.

G.Vice-ChairMaya:Vice-Chair Maya reported that he is now a member of the Anaheim Public Library
Foundation Board. He encouraged the Commission to join him at the Library Foundation’s annual “Meet
the Author” Luncheon on April 13, 2011 to make a table. There is a donation of $50 per seat.Vice-Chair
Mayaalso reminded the Commission that they are invited to the Mayor’s Holiday Open House on

Floor Conference Room.
Wednesday, December 1, 2010,from 5:30 –6:30 p.m. in the City Hall 7
H.Staff:Heritage Services ManagerJane Newell reported that Founders’Park is now under construction,
with completion anticipated for March 2011 and a Grand Opening possibly being held in June 2011. She is
still conducting tours during construction and has had a few special tours for Cub Scout groups, which
turnedout to be larger than anticipated due to parents and additionaladultparticipants. The tour groups
are very interested in the construction underway and have been encouraged to return and see the finished
park. Community Services SuperintendentCathyGlasgowdistributed invitations to the upcoming “Life in
Orange County” DTCC Art Gallery Opening on Thursday, December 2, 2010,at 7 p.m.The opening will
again be immediately followingthe Anaheim Arts Council General Meeting –hopefully boosting attendance.
In addition, flyers were distributed for the West Anaheim Holiday Magic Christmas Tree Lighting to be held
at Twila Reid Park on Friday, December 3, 2010,at 6 p.m. In response to Commissioner Deneau’srequest
that staff add a small sign to the DTCC Gallery stating “Project of the Cultural and Heritage Commission,”
Cathy Glasgow reported on a proposed design by Awards by Paul. The Commission requested several
design options be brought back to them for consideration.
7.NEXT MEETING: Thenext meeting will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2011,at 6:30 p.m. at the
Downtown Community Center, 250 E. Center Street, Anaheim.
8.ADJOURNMENT: Chair Larsen adjourned the meeting at 7:25p.m.
