I.INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS
A.FRIENDS OF THEANAHEIM PUBLICLIBRARY REPORT: Helen reportedthat the Friend’s
book sales totals are beginning to climbnow that they have a bookstore at Central Library.
Eleanor Hammond, a long member of the Friends passed away. Magazine donations are greatly
needed.
B.FRIENDS OF THECANYON HILLS LIBRARY REPORT:Audrey shared that the Friends
held their annual holiday dinner honoring their volunteers and continue to do fantastic work at
Canyon Hills Library.

FOUNDATIONREPORT:The Foundation is sponsoring a program with Jack Lindquist and his
book about Disneyon Thursday, January 20, 2011.Checks are now being accepted for the Mys-
tery Author Luncheon on Sunday, April 3, 2011.

IV.NEW BUSINESS
A.POLICY: The Revised Children in the LibraryGuidelines were reviewed.
MOTION: That the Library Board approve the Revised Children in the Library Guide-
linesas presented.M/S LC/RB 5 ayes
V.INFORMATION
A.CITY LIBRARIAN REPORT –Carol shared that the Central Library received a $500 donation
from a patron who frequents the Reference Desk. Carol informed the Board that the Library will
be closed on the citywide holiday forMartin Luther King’s Birthday on Monday, January 17,
2011. The Library will be participating in a fundraiser for Haiti Libraries sponsored by Orange
County Librarians. Library Board Memberships for American Library Association and CAL-
TAC are up for renewal.The Library is working on thebudget for 2011/2012 based on service
functions.
Carol informed the Board that the Governor’s proposed budget will completely eliminate State
level public library fundingresulting ina loss of $147,000 per year.

VI.ACTIVITY REPORTS
A.CAPITAL:Included in packet.
B.CENTRAL ADULT &YOUTH SERVICES ACTIVITIES & STATISTICS: Included in packet.
C.OPERATIONS:Audrey reported that the Library was invited to beta test virtual meeting hard-
ware/software along with the Fire Departmentthrough February 11, 2011.
D.BRANCH SERVICES: Audrey shared that Haskett Library has been selected by the YMCA to
have a mural placed in Mayor Curt Pringle’s honor. The dedication will be Thursday, January
27, at Haskett Library. Audrey passed around a list of Victorian themed items that are available
for sponsorship for Founders’Park.

VII.RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT
A.RECOGNITION OFSUPPORT BYBOARD MEMBERS:The Board would like to recognize
Tom Wood, City Manager, for allowing the Central Library to be open during the citywide
holidayclosure.
B.MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT CERTIFICATE: The Board recognized Laurie
Crawford for her efforts in collecting magazine and book donations from her Fluor coworkers for
the Friends of the Library.
VIII.BOARD ITEMS
LAURIE CRAWFORD, VICE CHAIR:Will be donating boxes of magazines and books to the
Friends of the Anaheim Public Library. Laurie informed the Board that she will not be able to
attend several of the Library Board meetings beginning in March due to ahealthissue.
ROBERTO BAEZA: Wished the Board a Happy New Year.
LANA BARLOW: Commended Carolyn Bryant for doing a very nice job in thanking the out-
going Mayor and City Council Members for their support of the Library.
CAROLYN BRYANT: Expressed that she believes the current City Council Members will be
supportive of the Library.
LINELL MATHISEN,CHAIR: Attended the Anaheim Historical Society’s “An Evening of
Wine and History”andthe Boards and CommissionsHoliday Reception,
IX.MISCELLANEOUS
A.NEXT MEETING:The next meeting will be Monday, February 14,2011at the Haskett Library.
B.ADJOURNMENT:Chair Linell Mathisen adjourned the meeting at 7:35p.m.
