9.INFORMATION ITEMS:
A.Commissioner Benedict:CommissionerBenedict, asthe Commission’s informal historian, shared the
beginnings of the Commission’s event and gallery archive. She requested that fellow Commissioners and
City staff please remember to send her copies of pertinent documentation, such as printed materials,
photographs, newspaper articles, etc., of the Commission’s events and activities.
B.Commissioner Castillo:Commissioner Castillo was absent.
C.Commissioner Deneau:Commissioner Deneau was absent.
D.Commissioner Galanis:Commissioner Galanis was absent.
E.Commissioner Jabbar:Commissioner Jabbarannounced the Sri Rathana Buddhist Centerwill be holding a
New Year’s Celebration at Pearson Park on April 23, 2011. They are also planning a Festival of Lights for
the end of May. Commissioner Jabbar also discussed his involvement with a neighborhood group holding
Children’s Day activities including an outdoor movie in the activity area at Ponderosa Elementary Schoolon
April 29, 2011. Commissioner Jabbar requested that City staff provide him with information regarding
scheduling of the picnic area adjacent to the Ponderosa Family Resource Center in Ponderosa Park.
Commissioner Jabbar also announced that he will be event emcee for the West Anaheim Neighborhood
District’s annual Western barbeque on May 14, 2011 at Twila Reid Park and encouraged everyone to
attend. Commissioner Jabbar also discussed his assistance to the South District Neighborhood Council
with their transition in leadership.
F.Chair Larsen:Chair Larsen reported that the City will be receiving the 2011 Outstanding Planning Award
for Colony Parkfrom the American Planning Association.Chair Larsen also reported on the upcoming
‘Chocolate’ exhibition at the MUZEO that will run from June 11 through September 2011, and the many
promotional activities that are being planned. Chair Larsen requested that a Commissionerparticipate on
the jury for next year’s ‘Color and Light’ reception for Junior High School students. Chair Larsen reminded
the Commission of the current ‘Trash Art Show’ Exhibition of Finalists at the MUZEO from April 22 to early
June2011.Chair Larsen also encouraged Commissioners to volunteer at the Anaheim Art Council’s
annual Children’s Festival held in the downtown district on Saturday, April 23, 2011, as a way to bring the
‘ACE’ to children versustrying to add children’s activities to the ACE event.
G.Vice-ChairMaya:Vice-Chair Maya reported on the wonderful success of the Anaheim Public Library
Foundation’s annual “Meet the Author” Luncheon held on April 3, 2011. Vice-Chair Maya reported on the
planning for the upcomingACE event which has about 30 live artistsscheduled to participate. A new
addition will be ‘Creative Identity’ whichis an organization that mentor individuals with autism or other
developmental disabilities who show a strong aptitude and potential as artists.
H.Staff:Heritage Services ManagerJane Newell reported on the Founders’Park construction progressand
readiness for the Historic Home Tour onMay 14 and15, 2011. Commissioners asked about the progress
on completing development of the public space adjacent to the Five Points building (Ruby’s). JaneNewell
reported that this is a project by Bill Taormina and was hopeful for completion prior to the Home Tour.
Community Services Superintendent Cathy Glasgow distributed invitations to the upcoming ‘Recent Relic’
artistreception, as well as the summer Community Services Guide to Activities and Programs, and the
summer 2011 Cultural Events Calendar.
10.NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2011,at 6:30 p.m. at the Downtown
Anaheim Community Center, 250 E. Center Street, Anaheim.
11.ADJOURNMENT: Chair Larsen adjourned the meeting at 8:02p.m.
