1.CALL TO ORDER: The meeting of the Cultural and Heritage Commission was called to order by Chair
Larsen at 6:52p.m.
2.UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION:None.
3.CORRESPONDENCE: Chair Larsenacknowledgedreceiving Commissioner Galanis’ resignation emailed
today. The Commission recognized her service to the Commission and Community Services Superintendent
Cathy Glasgow stated that she will be sending a formal thank you from the City. The Commission discussed
sending a personalized card of appreciation to be hand-made by Commissioner Benedict.
4.APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Vice-Chair Maya made a motion to approve the minutes for the May 19, 2011
meeting; Commissioner Jabbarmade a second and the motion passed.
5.GALLERIES SUBCOMMITTEE: Vice-Chair Mayathanked staff for facilitating the creation of an on-line Gallery’s
artist application.The Commission discussed the name ‘Center Gallery’ as it appears on the ceiling structure in
the Downtown Anaheim Community Center (DACC) as being a more recognizable identifier for the gallery. Staff
was directed to revise the Artist Application to reflect this name for the gallery and to investigate the addition of a
signage on the exterior of the DACC near the Center Street entrance adjacent to the gallery. Commission
Benedict presented a logo design for ‘The Cultural & Heritage Commission’ and the ‘Center Gallery’ for use on
printed materials and the future sign. Vice-Chair Maya made a motion to approve the logos; ChairLarsen made
a second and the motion passed. Commission Benedict presented the conceptual layout for the upcoming
Center Gallery exhibit by Dan Benedict and requested that the artist reception be rescheduled to a Saturday or
Friday in October. The Commission discussed options for the event and also determined that there will not be a
formal receptionat the Center Galleryin conjunction with the November 12, 2011 Art Crawl Experience. Cathy
Glasgow stated that staff willcontact the DACC to reschedule the artist reception.
6.EVENTS SUB-COMMITTTEE: Nothing additional to report.
7.ART FACILITIES SUBCOMMITTEE: No Report.
8.ARTIC REVIEW COMMITTEE: Chair Larsen reported that the next committee meeting will be held on July 6,
2011,and she will have an update for the Commission next month.
9.INFORMATION ITEMS:

B.Commissioner Castillo:Commissioner Castillo reported on the opening of the ‘Abstract Show’ June 18 –
24, 2011,at Joy Art, 455 West Center Street Promenade in Anaheim.

C.Commissioner Deneau:Commissioner Deneau complimented his fellow Commissioners for endorsing the
value of the historic preservation projects for a California Preservation Foundation 2011 Preservation
Design Award. Commissioner Deneau reported on several experimental theater and dance festivals
happening throughout the region.
D.Commissioner Jabbar:CommissionerJabbar reported on the recent Festival of Lights at the Anaheim
Temple at Lincoln Avenue and Dale Street.
F.Chair Larsen:Chair Larsenreported on the schedule of events for MUZEO Chocolate Festival.Chair
Larsendiscussed a request for a muralist by the Anaheim Hilton and will be deferring the request to
Commissioner Castillo.
G.Vice-ChairMaya:Vice-Chair Maya had no additional items.
H.Staff:Community Services Superintendent Cathy Glasgow reported on the actions requested at the
May 19, 2011 meeting: Completion of the on-line artist application; contacting the Laguna Fine Arts
Festival artist liaison; arrangements for the entertainment at the upcoming artist receptions; payment for the
cost for the ACE advertisement; and feedback for the City’s Risk Manager regarding a fine jewelry exhibit.
Heritage Services ManagerJane Newell provided a flyer and extended an invitation to the Commission for
the upcoming Anaheim Historical Society Summertime Picnic Annual Banquet to be held on June 25, 2011,
at Founders Park. Jane Newell also reported that the date for the Founders Park Dedication has been set
for Saturday, July 23, 2011,at 10 a.m.; that the Neighborhood Preservation Office is assisting with the
application for the Founders Park homes to be listed with the National Registry of Historic Sites; and that
the MUZEO staff are hoping to incorporate the steam-punking movement into the upcoming Victorian
exhibit.
10.NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be held on Thursday,July21, 2011,at 6:30 p.m. at the Downtown
Anaheim Community Center.
