CALL TO ORDER — Chairman Crawford called the meeting to order at 5.30 p.m.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE — Chairman Crawford led the Pledge of Allegiance.
INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATIONS
A. Written Communication — None
B. Unscheduled Oral Communication from the Public — None
APPROVAL OF MINUTES — Chairman Crawford presented the June 22, 2011 Minutes to the Commission and
asked if there were any changes or corrections. There being none, Chairman Crawford accepted the June 22,
2011 Minutes as presented.
ACTIVITY REPORTS
A. Parks Activity Report — May /June 2011: Larry Pasco presented the report highlighting the renovation of
fields on a rotational basis. Chairman Crawford asked about the Harley Davidson event held at Pearson
Park. Lynn Smith provided information about the corporate employee appreciation event held at the park
and the Theatre. Lynn stated in addition to the upgrades they contributed to the facility, the revenue from
this will cover a season's worth of events. Larry reported there were no issues regarding maintenance.
Commissioner Huitt asked about an event in September on the anniversary of 9/11. Lynn provided
information about the event during the week leading up to a ceremony at Pearson Park Theatre on Sunday
September 11, 2011 at 12:30 p.m. Commissioners were encouraged to view the information at Anaheim.net.
Chairman Crawford asked for an update on the privatization of park maintenance services. Larry reported the
City Council approved the agreements at the July 19, 2011 meeting. Larry provided information regarding the
privatization and the impact to the park maintenance personnel. Commissioner Manes led a discussion
regarding how the Commission /Commissioners could better support the efforts of staff regarding issues affecting
the public such as the privatization of park maintenance.

B. Parks Capital Project Progress Report — Pamela Galera presented the report and provided updates on the
following projects:
• Anaheim Coves — The work is substantially complete. Pima, the first contractor, has been released. The
second contractor, Marina Landscape, Inc., will install the remaining irrigation system, conduct the "grow
and kill," a process to eradicate weeds in the turf areas. This fall they will plant the native plants and
seeds. A dedication ceremony and opening will be scheduled for the fall.
• Cerritos property — The grant application for $5 million was submitted July 1, 2011. Notification will be
made spring 2012.
• Platinum Necklace (Connectivity Plan) — Pamela provided the history and information on "necklace"
projects throughout the country. The city has received two grants for this project. A draft plan is
scheduled to be completed this fall.
• Dog Parks — Staff is in discussion with SCE regarding the parcel at the southeast corner of State College
Boulevard and Cerritos for a dog park.
• Founders' Park — Pamela thanked the Commissioners who attended the very successful park dedication
held the previous weekend.
• Miraloma — The design and development is being refined for this project which will be out to bid next
year.
C. Senior Citizen Sub - Committee — Commissioner Huitt thank the city staff for the new crosswalk from the
parking structure to the entrance of the Senior Center at the Downtown Anaheim Community Center.
Commissioner Huitt reported she and the sub - committee have met and spoken on the telephone many
times, and would like to request a meeting with Lynn Smith and staff. Commissioner Huitt reported on the
meeting at Cal State Fullerton at the Center for Successful Aging, that she attended as a member of the
Health and Nutrition Committee for the Senior Citizens Advisory Council. Dr. Debbie Rose, Director of the
Center, provided a tour of the facility and information about a recent study regarding the newer senior
centers providing exercise equipment. Commissioner Huitt reported Supervisor Sean Nelson's office will
help arrange for the future foreclosure seminar. Supervisor Nelson is very concerned about senior issues.
NEW BUSINESS
A. Vice - Chairman Nominations for FY2011/2012 —Commissioner Manes agreed to volunteer for this position.
INFORMATIONAL ITEMS
Lynn Smith stated the Certified Farmer's Market at Ponderosa Park is very successful. The market focuses on
fresh fruit and vegetables. It is held every Tuesday, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
