Agenda Posting: A complete copy of the Anaheim Sister City Commission Agenda was posted
at 3:30 p.m. on August 24, 2012 at Anaheim City Hall.
Public Input: Chairman Nguyen explained that members of the public are invited to address the
Anaheim Sister City Commission and will be called upon under Agenda Item No. VII. Public
Comment.
I.CALL TO ORDER
The meeting of the Anaheim Sister City Commission (ASCC) was called to order
at 4:06

City Hall, 200 S. Anaheim Blvd., 7 Floor, Anaheim, California.
II.OATH OF OFFICE
Chairman Nguyen and the Commission members gave a warm welcome to the
newly appointed Commissioner: Cynthia Coad, along with reappointed
Commissioner: Jennifer Vaughn, as they were sworn in by Greg Garcia.
III.APPROVAL OF MINUTES

MOTION: Commissioner Newby offered a Motion, seconded by Commissioner
Pina AND MOTION CARRIED (Vote: 14-0; Absent: Paine) that the Anaheim
Sister City Commission does hereby approve the minutes as presented.
IV.
opening balance was
$16,626.94. With donations from Anaheim University in the amount of $500.00
and The Gas Company in the amount of $1,000.00, as well as the expenditures for
some of the student exchange BBQ and Sayonara Dinner events including the
stipend for the teacher/chaperone in the amount of $4,312.94, the current balance
is now $13,814.00. There will be further expenses deducted for the student
exchange events once all of the invoices are in.
MOTION: Commissioner Piercy offered a Motion, seconded by Commissioner
Gin AND MOTION CARRIED (Vote: 14-0; Absent: Paine) that the Anaheim
V. MITO STUDENT EXCHANGE - RECAP
Greg reported that staff is finalizing the details and still getting all the receipts.
Once this is complete they will close out the Exchange Student trip and give a
final report at that time.
The student exchange was a success and went well. A lot of staff time was spent
on the events. The biggest challenge was setting up host families. All of the host
families this year were Anaheim families. At this time, it has been reported to
Greg that the kids had a great time and the host families had a wonderful
experience which was really important.
Commissioner Leonard stated that she was informed that they had a great time
and would like to stay longer next time.
Commissioner Gallaugher stated that she was very impressed with all of the
students and especially their performance at the Sayonara dinner.
VI. FUNDRAISER UPDATE 9/12/12
Commissioner Newby reported on the wines that will be featured at the wine
tasting event on September 12. There is a PowerPoint discussion of the wines
available that can be played at this event or even at a future event. At this event,
there will be a short presentation that will include Commission members talking
about the Anaheim Sister City Commission.

Commissioner Pina named the attendees that are currently scheduled to attend and
she is in the process of collecting checks and putting a list together. There will be
nametags for each of the attendees and there will be a gift given to each of the
sponsors.
VII. AD HOC SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS
Commissioner Newby reported that the all of the Marketing and Fundraising
subcommittee meetings this month have been about the planning for the
upcoming wine tasting event on September 21.
Chairman Nguyen reported on behalf of the Executive Committee that he
attended the quarterly meeting for the SoCal Sister City International Board.
These board meetings support the California Sister City organizations and they
are open to everybody.
Chairman Nguyen encouraged everyone to subscribe to the e-newsletter for the
Sister Cities International in order to keep informed on all of the programs,
events, training conferences, grants available, etc.
An upcoming Sister City training conference will be held at the Anaheim Hilton
on Saturday, April 6, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. They are expecting
approximately 150 guests to attend. It will be a great opportunity to share
resources and network with all of the SoCal Sister City organizations in
attanendance. More information and details will be forthcoming.
VIII. ELECTION OF OFFICERS CONTINUED FROM 7/24/12
Greg Garcia verified that the bylaws do in fact state that officers may not serve in
the same position for more than three consecutive years. Chairman Nguyen has
served two consecutive years therefore he is in fact available to serve as Chair, if
so elected.
MOTION: Commissioner Leonard offered a Motion, seconded by Commissioner
Pina AND MOTION CARRIED (Vote: 14-0; Absent: Paine) that the Anaheim
Sister City Commission does hereby elect Commissioner Nguyen as the Chair.
At the last ASCC meeting Commissioner Paine was elected as Vice Chair and
Commissioner Leonard was elected as Treasurer.

Chairman Nguyen took nominations from the floor to designate and vote for the
yearly appointments of the ad hoc subcommittees.

XI. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS
Commissioner Newby suggested that the ASCC have a representative attend the
City Council Meeting and talk about the upcoming wine tasting event and invite
all those interested.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:23 p.m. to
