1. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting of the Cultural and Heritage Commission was called to order by Chair
Larsen at 6:33 p.m
2. SCHEDULED COMMUNICATION:
John Scola, Muzeo Executive Director, discussed the upcoming Gala, and

plans for future exhibits. He discussed the Trash Art Expo that displayed art work of 3 to 12 grade students
alongside Trash Art from professional artists. He explained that Gala attendees will get
a sneak peek at the Spanish Masters exhibit, which will be on display from October 14 through January 6,
2013future since the dissolution of the Redevelopment Agency, financial
restraints they face, and ways they can partner with other organizations. Chair Larsen asked about the effects
of recent staffing changes, and he said it is too soon to tell at this time, but they are working towards being
completely self-sufficient and they hope to continue to work closely with the Downtown Anaheim Association.
Chair Larsen asked whether exhibits the Muzeo previously committed to will go on, and John stated that they
would. He noted that a new photography ex
Chair Larsen stated that the Commission recognizes the importance of the Muzeo to the Downtown Arts
District and Anaheim as a whole, and they are dedicated to the success of the Muzeo and are willing to help in
any way they can. Vice-Chair Maya asked if someone from the Muzeo could give an update presentation
annually to the Commission, and John stated they would be happy to do so.
Pamela Galera, Principal Project Planner for the Community Services Department, presented the Anaheim
Outdoors Connectivity Plan and the Platinum Necklace. She explained the process and stakeholders and
asked the Commission to approve the portion relating to the Cultural Plan. She explained the different
portions of the plan and the Resolution they plan to bring to City Council in November. She also invited
Commissioners to attend a workshop/open house being held on Saturday, September 22, from 10:00 a.m. to
12:00 p.m. at the Pearson Park Amphitheatre patio area.
3. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: Michael Buss, President of the Anaheim Arts Council, came to
the meeting to thank the Cultural & Heritage Commission for their support, and announced the Come Together

event being held on October 13 from 11:00 am. to 3:00 p.m. in La Palma Park. It is planned to be a day of
peace and healing, with information booths from agencies offering support and assistance to the targeted
population. He explained that the Arts Council will be coordinating artists who will be onsite helping families
articulate their feelings through art,
4. CORRESPONDENCE: Janis noted that she received an application for the Center Gallery and she brought
the packets for the Center Gallery sub-committee to review.
5. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Commissioner Deneau made a motion to approve the minutes for the August 16,
2012 meeting; Commissioner Roditis made a second and the motion passed with one abstention and the
remainder ayes.

6. GALLERIES SUBCOMMITTEE: Vice-Chair Maya asked about progress with the upcoming exhibit. Janis
reported that the reception will be held in November the same day as
ACE. Chair Larsen stated there seems to be confusion about the dates; Janis
still continue with an event on October 13, but city staff would not be available to organize it. City staff will
contact Commissioner Castillo about it and get the details confirmed.
7. ART FACILITIES SUBCOMMITTEE: Commissioner Deneau reported that the report is being reviewed by the
presented to them in the Connectivity Plan to include the Cultural & Heritage Commission in the language.
Commissioner Deneau would like to meet with Pamela on behalf of the Art Facilities Subcommittee to work on
the phraseology and get more details about the project.
8. INFORMATION ITEMS:

B. Commissioner Castillo: Absent.
C. Commissioner Deneau: No report.
D. Commissioner Jabbar: No report.
E. Chair Larsen: Chair Larsen reported that she and Vice-Chair Maya went to the groundbreaking for
ARTIC and she plans to attend the Ponderosa Library opening on October 6 with Vice-Chair Maya and
Commissioner Jabbar. She noted that the Anaheim Film Festival is coming up.
F. Vice-Chair Maya: No report.
G. Commissioner Roditis: Commissioner Roditis noted that he will plan to attend the Ponderosa Library
opening on October 6.
H. Staff: Janis received communication today from a member of the Anaheim Performing Arts Center
Foundation (APACF), and they have created a Business Plan that they plan to present to City Manager
Bob Wingenroth next week. APACF is interested in attending the next Cultural & Heritage Commission
meeting to review your Cultural Facilities report and discuss how it would align with their business plan.
The site they have identified and are interested in is the Heritage Forum.
Janis also reported about the removal of the chalk after the Chalk Walk, and she determined that the
security guard contacted Shelly and asked for the chalk that was on the pillars outside of the city facility
and in front of the walkway to be removed. They also received a request from Jan Branich to remove the
chalk in the walkway at the Downtown Anaheim Community Center. After receiving two phone calls
regarding the chalk, it appears that Shelly had it all cleaned up. Janis also noted that she received many
complaints through Anaheim Anytime about their disappointment at the removal of the chalk drawings,
and she personally spoke with each of them.
Jane reported that the Historical Society banquet held in June raised $6,000 that will be used, together
with an additional donation from the Friends of the Library, for a restoration project at the Woelke-Stoffel
House. They are re-staining the entry hall woodwork, stairway and nook on the ground floor. There will
be new wallpaper and painting, and they will most likely hold a reception in November. She invited the
Commissioners to attend the Open House which will be held on October 6 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
9. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. at the
Downtown Anaheim Community Center, 250 E. Center Street, Anaheim.
10. ADJOURNMENT: Chair Larsen adjourned the meeting at 8:05 p.m.
