A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ANAHEIM CLOSING A PORTION OF CONVENTION WAY
BETWEEN HOTEL WAY AND THE SOUTHEAST CORNER
OF THE CONVENTION CENTER'S EXHIBIT HALL D TO
VEHICULAR TRAFFIC FOR PURPOSES OF TRAFFIC
CONTROL
WHEREAS, Vehicle Code section 21101 authorizes the City Council by resolution to
close any non - arterial street if such closure implements the circulation element of the General Plan, is
consistent with the health and safety of the City' s residents, and the closure is accomplished consistent
with the signage requirements of the Vehicle Code section 21103; and
WHEREAS, Convention Way is no longer needed for vehicular traffic; and
WHEREAS, modification to the vehicular cul -de -sac at the southeast corner of the
Convention Center and improvements to the Transit Plaza/Car Park 4 parking structure access road
from West Street established a convenient taxi and shuttle pick -up and drop off area for Convention
Center patrons; and
WHEREAS, Convention Center Grand Plaza creates a 100,000 square feet pedestrian
plaza west of Hotel Way by construction of a traffic circle at the Convention Way and Hotel Way
intersection, while maintaining access to surrounding hotels; and
WHEREAS, construction of Convention Center Grand Plaza provides for health and
safety of Anaheim citizens as well as Convention Center patrons by significantly reducing conflicts
between vehicular and considerable pedestrian volume that crossed Convention Way between the two
major hotels.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Anaheim as
follows:
1. That Convention Way be, and the same hereby, is closed to vehicular traffic
between Hotel Way and the southeast corner of the Convention Center's Exhibit Hall D, as depicted in
attached Exhibit A.
2. That appropriate signage be erected throughout the affected and surrounding areas
to direct traffic on major Anaheim Resort arterials to Car Park 4 via the West Street entrance.
3. That the foregoing closure implements the circulation element of the General Plan
and enhances the health and safety of the residents of Anaheim.
THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION is approved and adopted by the City Council of the City of
Anaheim this 29th day of January , 2013, by the following roll call vote:
AYES: Mayor Tait, Council Members Eastman, Brandman, Kring and Murray
