COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairman Crawford, Vice Chair Manes,
Commissioners Brennan, Navarro, and Huitt
COMMISSIONER EXCUSED: Commissioner Vadodaria and Lappin
STAFF PRESENT: Lynn Smith – Community Services Manager, Larry Pasco – Parks Manager,
Pamela Galera, Principal Project Planner, Wendy Solorio – Community Services Supervisor,
Eleanor Granflor – Sr. Secretary
CALL TO ORDER –Chairman Crawford called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE –Chairman Crawford led the Pledge of Allegiance.
INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATIONS

B.Unscheduled Oral Communication from the Public – None
APPROVAL OF MINUTES – Chairman Crawford presented the October 24, 2012 Minutes to the Commissioners for
changes or corrections. There being none, Chairman Crawford accepted the minutes as presented.
ACTIVITY REPORTS
A.Parks Activity Report –September/October – Larry Pasco presented the report and answered questions regarding the
closure of selected turf areas at Boysen and Juarez parks for renovation by the contractor; the replacement of two
Camphor trees in front of Pearson Theatre; the connection between the Canadian Football League and the usage of
Brookhurst Park for the two-day football work-out; and the renovation of the Cactus Garden at Pearson Park.
Chairman Crawford commended the Parks Division for attending “Tree Work Safety Training” to prepare for
emergency situations. Larry Pasco stated Bill Taylor, the City’s Risk Manager, suggested staff attend the training.
Chairman Crawford stated Anaheim Coves is not listed on the My Anaheim app. Larry Pasco and Pamela will look into
updating the app to include Anaheim Coves.
B.Recreation and Human Services Park Ranger Report – September/October – Lynn Smith presented the report and
answered questions regarding the curfew statistics of various parks.
C.Parks Capital Project Progress Report –Pamela Galera presented the report, provided updates, and answered
questions on the following projects:
Anaheim Outdoors – The Anaheim Outdoors Connectivity Plan is in draft form and will go to City Council for
approval in February.
New park north of Nohl Ranch Road, east of the Canyon Hills Library – A community meeting will be held on
Tuesday December 4 to receive input from the community on a future park. There is currently no funding for this

project, but there may be opportunities to apply for grant funding.
Paul Revere Park – The project continues to move forward, 50% of construction documents have been received.
– A grant was received to remove the invasive plant and replace with native plant material. This
Pelanconi Park
project has been put on hold. Staff will research additional funding in order to complete more projects at this park.
Historical information of the park will be emailed to Commissioners.

Ross Park Expansion – Half of the land had been previously developed with a ballfield, playground, restroom and
parking lot. The other half of the property was purchased from the Home Oil Company. The land has some level
of contamination and is currently being cleaned prior to future public use. The Anaheim Family YMCA is currently
working with the City on a potential plan to build a YMCA facility on the Ross Park expansion property.
Commissioner Huitt questioned a street construction project on Brookhurst. Pamela Galera stated the streets are
being widened. Larry Pasco stated this is a Public Works project, not under the jurisdiction of the Community
Services Department.
D.Senior Citizen Sub-Committee Report – Commissioner Huitt reported the Center for Successful Aging at Cal State
University, Fullerton is participating in the Stay Well at Home (SWAH) Program geared for seniors who are 75 years of
age or older. Students will make 12 in-home visits to teach exercises to improve the individual’s balance and strength,
and how to fall proof their home. A trained program facilitator will follow-up with weekly phone calls over a six-month
period.

INFORMATIONAL ITEMS– Chairman Crawford reported the Christmas Tree Lighting will be held Saturday, December 2

in Downtown Anaheim. Tree lighting at Twila Reid will be held Friday, December 7.
