FINANCIAL REPORTS:
A. September Financial Report
Jack Kudron reported every revenue center was at a three year monthly high. September
was a great month all around. The Anaheim Hills Golf Course Range is doing great
business.
OLD BUSINESS:
A. Anaheim Hills Community Clubhouse Status
Jack Kudron updated the Commission on the status of the clubhouse project. The most
recent developments are funding strategies are being discussed with members of the City
Council. A citizen committee meeting has taken place. The building has been valued
engineered, reducing square footage and different materials to bring costs down. The
banquet rooms were reduced and the support facilities to the banquet rooms, i.e. kitchen,
lobbies etc., cutting approximately 6,000 square feet. No golf facilities have been changed.
The current cost estimate is $8.7 million for approximately 34,000 square feet. The citizen
committee is in agreement with staff's work to date. Jack distributed a sheet outlining
proposed funding strategies and schedule. As soon as the City Council approves the
project, a Request for Proposal to hire an architect will be the next step. A Request for
Proposal has been completed for the temporary facilities design. A Request for
Qualifications will need to be prepared for a food and beverage operator. Discussion
ensued.
B. Anaheim Hills Stream Enhancement Project Status
Jack Kudron reported the low bid was $124,000. Award is going to Bellfree Construction.
Notice to Proceed will be sent out within the next 30 days. The projected start date is
November 15. The second phase of the project will include vegetation the Fish and Game
Department is requiring. Project completion will be April 1997.
NEW BUSINESS:
A. Promotion Plans
Janet Donovan updated the Commission on promotion plans ahead. Staff is tracking days,
and times of days, per golf course to identify the slow times. The promotions will target
the slow times of the week and times of the day. The pro staff members at both courses,
Bob Johns, Ed Munson and Janet Donovan met and planned promotions through the next
fiscal year. The promotions will be evaluated to see if they were a success. Janet
reviewed with the Commission various promotions planned for each month.
B. Soft Spike Discussion
Staff would like to promote soft spikes to improve the conditions on the course and asked
feedback from the Commission. Commissioner Riley suggested we identify a group of
people and voluntarily providing soft spikes, i.e. Men's Club. Soft spikes are becoming
more popular, and even required at some courses. The Commission supported staff's
suggestion in working toward the promotion of soft spikes. Staff will begin researching
and come up with some promotions and report back to the Commission.
C. Dad Miller #15 Hole Discussion
Jack reviewed the background on the neighbor whose residence is located right off of the
#15 Hole and gets balls entering his residence. Golf balls have ended up in the house.
Staff has inquired on chevron fencing, which comes out and protect at a 45 degree angle.
Preliminary costs have come in at approximately $25,000. Discussion took place on
various alternatives. Discussion resulted in the idea of putting in a long fairway bunker on
the left side, re- orient the tee, take a few of the trees out on the other side of the bridge,
and put a new tree line down the left side of the house. This would be a less costly
alternative. Staff will report back to the Commission.
D. November/December Golf Advisory Commission Meeting Date
The regularly scheduled meeting for November is Thursday, November 28 (Thanksgiving
Day). The November and December meetings are normally combined due to the holidays.
Therefore, it was agreed to move the November and December meetings to the first
