A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ANAHEIM TEMPORARILY CLOSING A PORTION OF
DAKOTA STREET AT EATON PLACE TO VEHICULAR
TRAFFIC FOR PURPOSES OF TRAFFIC CONTROL
WHEREAS, Vehicle Code section 21101 authorizes the City Council by resolution to
close any non - arterial street if such closure implements the circulation element of the General Plan, is
consistent with the health and safety of the City's residents, and the closure is accomplished consistent
with the signage requirements of the Vehicle Code section 21103; and
WHEREAS, the proposed temporary street closure will close Dakota Avenue at Eaton
Place to through traffic; and
WHEREAS, proposed neighborhood improvements to the Avon Dakota Neighborhood
include the temporary closure of a portion of Dakota Avenue and enhancement of the area; and
WHEREAS, the proposed neighborhood improvements are part of the scope of work to
further neighborhood revitalization; and
WHEREAS, themed decorative emergency access gates will be installed at both ends of
the closed portion of Dakota Avenue, as depicted in attached Exhibit A; and
WHEREAS, the closed portion of Dakota Avenue will be enhanced with a play yard for
neighborhood children and families, while enabling emergency response vehicles access if required;
and
WHEREAS, the closed portion of Dakota Avenue will be maintained by the Anaheim
Housing Authority; and
WHEREAS, Dakota Avenue is a curvilinear street with four 90 degree curvatures and
can be used as a cut - through between South Street and Vermont Avenue; and
WHEREAS, the proposed temporary closure will result in the elimination of cut - through
traffic while maintaining pedestrian and bicycle connectivity; and
WHEREAS, based on the foregoing, the temporary closure of Dakota Avenue at Eaton
Place provides for health and safety of Anaheim citizens and will further revitalization efforts in the
neighborhood.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Anaheim as
follows:
1, That Dakota Street at Eaton Place be and is hereby temporarily closed to
vehicular traffic, as depicted in attached Exhibit A.
2. That appropriate signage be erected throughout the affected and surrounding
areas.
3. That the foregoing closure implements the circulation element of the General Plan
and enhances the health and safety of the residents of Anaheim
