1.CALL TO ORDER: The meeting of the Cultural and Heritage Commission was called to order by Vice Chair
Mayaat 6:32 p.m.
2.SCHEDULED COMMUNICATION: Gigi Fusco Meese, Executive Directorof theAnaheim Performing Arts
Center Foundation,introduced herself and reported the Foundation will be hosting their third annual fundraiser
event “The Great Gatsby”next week.Gigi looks forward to working with the Cultural and Heritage Commission.
3.UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: Oliver Zavalaand Daisy Martinez, Board Members of the
R.H.Y.T.H.M.O. Inc. Mariachi Academy,introduced themselves and reported theAnaheim Mariachi Festival will
be held at Pearson Park Amphitheater on October 12, 2013. Oliver reported fundraisers are currently being
held to raise money for the Academy and looks forward to working with the Commission in the future. Daisy
distributed information regarding the Festival and reported the Academy is looking for volunteers to help with the
event. Janis Heckel shared information regarding the Volunteer Match link on the City website to seek
volunteers.
4.CORRESPONDENCE: Chair Maya received a letter inviting the commission to attend the EID Festival, which
marks the start of the holiday season for Muslims that will be held in Downtown Anaheim on August 17-18,
2013.
5.APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Commissioner Romeromade a motion to approve the minutes for the July 18, 2013
meeting; Commissioner Deneaumade a second and the motion passed.
6.NEW BUSINESS: None.
7.GALLERIES SUBCOMMITTEE: Chair Maya reported that he will co-show an exhibit with Alone Larsen. The
Opening Reception is scheduled for September 5, 2013.
Chair Maya shared pricing information for newspaper advertisements in the Sunday OC Register for marketing
future art showsheld at the Center Gallery. Chair Maya and Commissioners had a lengthy discussion regarding
the purchase of future advertisements. Chair Maya stated the purchase of advertisements will be brought up at
future meetings. Commissioner Pettigrew stated he will contact Doug Morino to request an article be written
about the Center Gallery. Janis Heckel stated that City staff can work on an article to be included in the
Community Services Activity Guide, and reminded Commissioners that the City website also showcases
information and the schedule of the Center Gallery. Commissioner Pettigrew requested that journalists be
invited to art show openings. Janis Heckel stated she will look into sending invitations to journalists.

8.ART FACILITIES SUBCOMMITTEE: Janis Heckel reported the sub-committee will be taking a field trip to visit
the Cerritos Performing Arts Center on August 19, 2013 and will meet with the Executive Director for a portion of
the trip. Janis stated that due to the Brown Act, only three representatives can attend any meeting at one time
and will email information to the Commissioners. Chair Maya stated Commissioner Rodriguez, Commissioner
Deneau and himself will attend the field trip. Commissioner Deneau recommended all Commissioners to
attend the field trip for the facility tour portion, but do not attend the meeting with the Executive Director.
Commissioner Deneau distributed information about the Performing Arts Center in Orlando, Florida. He shared
comparison information of Orlando to Anaheim statistics, and stated that the builder, Barton Myers, also built the
Cerritos Center for Performing Arts.
9.INFORMATION ITEMS:Each Commissioner and City staff introduced themselves to the new Commissioners.

F.Commissioner Rodriguez: Commissioner Rodriguez reported the Opening Reception is scheduled for
September 5, 2013 at 7:00 p.m.
H.Commissioner Romero: No report.
I.Staff:Jane Newell reported the following:
1.Two letters were received from the State Historic Office of Preservation stating the Woelke-Stoffel
House and Mother Colony House are now part of the National Register of Historic Places.
2.Anaheim has a photograph in the state publication, “Historical Context and Archaeological Research
Design.”
3.Restoration project at the Woelke-Stoffel House is almost complete.
4.The first wedding was held at Founders’ Park in late July.

5.The first birthday party is scheduled to be held at Founders’ Park on August 25
th
.
6.The next Founders’ Park Open House is on September 7
th
at Founders’ Park.
7.The Historical Society will be hosting an event on September 14
8.The Woelke-Stoffel House roof project will go to bid in October.
9.Jane had an interview with the OC Register regarding 10 significant artifacts in Anaheim.
10.The Virtual Tour project for Founders’ Park is approximately one-third complete.
