COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairman Manes, Vice Chair Brennan and Commissioners Huitt, Anderson, and Levy
COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioners Lappin and Navarro
STAFF PRESENT: Sjany Larson-Cash – Community Services Superintendent, Larry Pasco – Parks Manager,
Pamela Galera, Principal Project Planner, Wendy Solorio – Community Services Supervisor,
Eleanor Granflor – Sr. Secretary
CALL TO ORDER – Vice Chairman Brennan called the meeting to order at 5:34 p.m.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE – Vice Chairman Brennan led the Pledge of Allegiance.
INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS

B.Unscheduled Oral Communication from the Public – None.
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES – Vice Chairman Brennan presented the August 28, 2013 Minutes to the Commissioners for
changes or corrections. Commissioner Huitt made a motion to accept the minutes, seconded by Commissioner Levy. There
being no further additions or corrections, Vice Chairman Brennan accepted the Minutes.
REPORTS
A.Parks Activity Report –July/August – Larry Pasco presented the report and answered questions. Larry highlighted the
installation of a new light pole at Boysen Park and the City’s homeless storage facility pilot project located on the vacant lot
behind Glover Stadium. Larry reported an Ordinance is currently awaiting approval that would prohibit camping and
storage of personal property on public property including parks.
B.Recreation and Human Services Park Ranger Report – August – Sjany Larson-Cash presented the report and answered
questions regarding Health and Safety Activity at Boysen Park.
C.Parks Capital Project Progress Report – Pamela Galera presented the report, provided updates, and answered questions
on the following projects:
5 Coves – A community meeting will be held on October 15 at Rio Vista Elementary School.

Little Peoples Park – A community meeting will be held on October 28 at Little Peoples Park.
Miraloma – The construction contract was awarded on September 24.

Paul Revere Park – Project is out to bid.
Ponderosa Park – A community meeting was held on September 17. Minor changes were made to the Master Plan

and a second community meeting will be held on October 2.

Woelke-Stoffel House Roof Replacement – The bid opening was held on September 19 but due to a bid protest, there

will be a delay in going to City Council for the bid to be awarded.
D.Senior Citizen Sub-Committee Report – Commissioner Huitt clarified the stationary exercise equipment at Schweitzer and
Edison parks is not the type of equipment that is requested for the green space between the Downtown Anaheim
Community Center and the Downtown Anaheim Youth Center; movable exercise equipment was requested for the green
space area. Larry Pasco stated a task force will be put together to look into movable exercise equipment. Further
information regarding the status of the funding sources with Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez’s office was discussed at
length by staff and Commissioners.

Sjany Larson-Cash reported the following:
The Orange County Alzheimer’s event will be held on October 12 at Brookhurst Community Center.

The Fall Festival will be held on October 26 at the Center Street Promenade. The Halloween Parade will be held on

the same day following the Fall Festival activities.
Vice Chairman Brennan reported the following:
The Friar Feast will be held on September 27 at Servite High School.

The P21 Initiative will be presented to the City Council on October 8.
