CALL TO ORDER - The agenda having been posted at 11:00 a.m. on December 3, 2013, the regular meeting of the
Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Crawford at 6:40 p.m.

I.INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS:
A.FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: Audrey shared that the Friends
contributed matching funds for a California Reads “War Comes Home” Grant awarded to John Simon.
The grant focuses on helping Veterans find services. The Friends had their budget meeting and increased
the amount allotted to the Ponderosa Joint-Use Library. The Book Sale on December 7, raised $321.15.
Rick Brown, retired Library staff member was a tremendous help.
B.FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY REPORT: Betsy Kasten reported that the Friends of
the Canyon Hills Library raised $1,368.96 from their November Holiday Book Sale. Book sale totals for

2013 are $5,860. The Christmas Volunteer recognition was held on December 8 and they appreciated
the attendance of Library staff. FOCAL has updated their membership pamphlet.
C.ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The Foundation approved continued
financial support for eBooks in 2014. They sponsored 25 tickets to APL teen volunteers to attend the
Chance Theater production of “The Secret Garden.”The Mystery Authors’ Luncheon “A Time to Thrill”
will be held on April 6, 2014.
D.UNSCHEDULED ORAL COMMUNICATION: None.
E.WRITTEN COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: Audrey shared thank you cards from school children
and a patron letter thanking staff for the Language of Flowers program.

A.VIRTUAL TOUR OF FOUNDERS’ PARK DEMONSTRATION: Valencia High School Technology
Interns demonstrated the virtual tour they created of Founders’ Park.

VII.MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: The Board
recognized the Hirahara family for their many contributions to the Heritage Services program.
VIII.BOARD ITEMS
DAVID ROBERT “D.R.” HEYWOOD – Enjoyed attending the Library Division Meeting/Potluck. The
th
Annual Halloween Parade was held on October 26, and next year will be the parade’s 90 year.
STAN OFTELIE – Shared copies of his book “Nothing Rhymes with Orange” that was given out at Gift of
History Event. The event was attended by 18,000 and is the largest history lesson encouraging children to
read in the world.
CAROLYN BRYANT, VICE CHAIR –None.
LINELL MATHISEN – Enjoyed the Friends of Canyon Hills Holiday Luncheon. She attended The Language
of Flowers” program at the Canyon Hills Library and was very impressed with the program and the author
Vanessa Diffenbaugh. Linell also attended the Let’s Cook program at the Ponderosa Joint-Use Library.
LAURIE CRAWFORD, CHAIR – Attended the Library Division Meeting/Potluck and enjoyed handing out
the Certificates of Recognition to the Docents. She also attended the Christmas Tree Lighting in Downtown
Anaheim and was pleased to see a Community Services booth with library materials.
IX.MISCELLANEOUS
A.NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be Monday, January 13, 2014, at the Central Library.
