CALL TO ORDER –The agenda having been posted at11:00 a.m. onMarch 4,2014, the regular meeting
of the Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to orderbyChair Crawfordat 6:37 p.m.

I.INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS:
A.FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: Helen Carter reported that their next
Book Sale is Saturday, March 29, 10am-2pm at the Central Library. The Friends have purchased an ad in
the Foundation’s Mystery Authors Luncheon Programand will have a flyer in the program asking for
donations. John Simon attended the Friends meeting and provided anupdate on the California Reads
“War Comes Home” Grant.
B.FRIENDSOF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY REPORT: Betsy Kastenshared thatthe Friends of the
Canyon Hills Library sponsored Author Katherine Longshore’s program at the Canyon Hills Library.
Theirnext book sale is scheduled forMarch 17-22, 2014.They have also scheduled a Big Bang Book
Sale from June 30-July 3, 2014. The Friends are looking forward to the Community Services Recognition
Luncheon and the Mystery Author’s Luncheon. Betsy thanked Library Board Member Carolyn Bryantfor
assistance with aFOCAL tax issue. The next FOCAL meeting isMarch 20.
C.ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARYFOUNDATION REPORT: A Writers Workshop with Author William
Bernhardt will be held Monday, April 7 at the Central Library. The Mystery Authors’ Luncheon “A Time
to Thrill” will be held on April 6, 2014.
D.UNSCHEDULEDORAL COMMUNICATION: Karen shared cardsthat children at Haskett made for
seniors from Emeritus Fairwood Manor for Valentine’s Day and bookmarks and handouts that
Bookmobile made available for Teen Dating Violence Awarenessand Prevention Month.
E.WRITTEN COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: None.

A.SUMMER READING PROGRAM:Kathleen Pezzetti presented pictures from each branch along with
participation statistics for the 2013 Summer Reading Program.

V.INFORMATION
A.CITY LIBRARIAN’S REPORT:
The Library Division Budget for 2014/15 has been submitted to the Community Services Department.
B.PUBLICITY:The Anaheim Independent has been listing Anaheim Public Library storytimes in the
Community Calendar section.
C.LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: Senate Bill 1455 Major Library Construction Bond Measure has been
formally introduced. This Bill is similar to the one that Anaheim received fundsfrom in 2004 to
reconstruct the Haskett Branch Library.

CAROLYN BRYANT–The Anaheim Brewery is interested in donating items for the Anaheim Public
Library Foundations’ Mystery Authors Luncheon.
DAVID ROBERT “D.R.” HEYWOOD–The Boys & Girls Club will be having their annual dinner on
March 22. D.R. requested to be kept updated on SB 1455
LINELL MATHISEN, VICE CHAIR –As a teacher has been a very active Library user this month.
LAURIE CRAWFORD, CHAIR –Attended the Art Crawl and was happy to see the Muzeo open.

A.NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be Monday, April 14, 2014, at the Central Library.
