1. CALL TO ORDER: Chair Maya called the meeting of the Cultural and Heritage Commission to order at 6:42
p.m.
2. SCHEDULED COMMUNICATION: No report
3. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: Stephen Faessel Corresponding Secretary for the Anaheim
Historical Society presented a sincere note of the community’s appreciation for Commissioner Deneau’s
dedication to preserving Anaheim’s neighborhoods and its history.
4. CORRESPONDENCE: No report
5. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Commissioner Deneau made a motion to approve the minutes for the
May 15, 2014 meeting; Vice Chair Pettigrew made a second and the motion passed with five (5) ayes.
6. OLD BUSINESS:
i. SB 1432 and AB 1662 Letter of Support: Chair Maya asked the Commissioners to read the letter of
support that Commissioner Medrano prepared for City Council. Vice Chair Pettigrew made a motion
to approve the Letter of Support. Commissioner Deneau second and the motion passed.
Janis informed the Commissioners that typically Chair Maya would sign on behalf of the commission.
Chair Maya suggested that it would be better if everyone would sign the letter to show support. Janis
stated that the letter of support will be prepared for the Commissioner’s to sign at their convenience.
ii. City Public Arts Projects: Chair Maya requested that there be a discussion of the purposed
guidelines for appointing a liaison for art projects at next month’s meeting.

8. ART FACILITIES SUB-COMMITTEE: No report
9. ARTIST IDENTIFICATION SUB-COMMITTEE: No report
10. INFORMATION ITEMS:
A. Commissioner Deneau: Commissioner Deneau thanked the Commission for their support. He would
like the Cultural & Heritage Commission to continue to grow and be commended for their efforts by the
City Council.
B. Chair Maya: Chair Maya stated that he would present a report at the next meeting.

E. Commissioner Roditis: Commissioner Roditis presented a summer art workshop proposal that Creative
Creatures & Co. provided in the San Juan Capistrano area. He made a request to discuss sponsoring
these activities in the Anaheim Hills area. He also stated that there will be an opportunity to participate in

one of the art workshops on August 17 at Oak Canyon Nature Center that is being sponsored by the
Anaheim Hills Rotary Club. Chair Maya stated although it is a good idea it is not enough time to
participate in this event. Janis suggested that this item will be placed on the agenda as new business for
the next meeting.

H. Staff:
Janis reported that the Muzeo hired a new Executive Director Daniel Finley and that it is customary to
invite the new Executive Director to a Cultural & Heritage meeting. The Commissioners asked Janis to
extend the invitation to Mr. Finley to attend a meeting. Janis also presented an article from the Orange
County Register regarding Chair Maya’s quote on the ARTIC Transit Artwork. Chair Maya asked if Janis
could keep the article on the agenda as new business.

She informed the Commission that Friday, June 20 would be the Pearson Park Amphitheatre opening
for the Summer Season. Pearson Park Amphitheatre staff hand delivered 300 brochures with two
complimentary tickets to the residents surrounding Pearson Park Amphitheater; and another 200 will be
delivered the following afternoon.
Chair Maya inquired about the sound volume at Pearson Park Amphitheatre. Janis stated that she is
working with the sound contractor and has adjusted on week nights and Sundays to end events at 9:00
p.m. instead of 10:00 p.m. to address a concern that was expressed by residents.
Jane Newell thanked everyone for attending the dedication of the Mills Act Plaque. She stated that the
contractors will be working throughout the summer on the exterior of the Mother Colony to evaluate for
structural weakness. Two (2) large plaques will be removed from the front of the house and relocated to a
concrete monument and placed in the front of the house. Jane reported that the Mother Colony and the
Woelke-Stoffel House have been received into the National Registry, the highest level of recognition
available for U.S. historic structures.
Chair Maya presented a personalized pen to Commissioner Deneau on behalf of the City of Anaheim and
the Cultural & Heritage Commission for his past seven (7) years of service.
