The second initiative was "Project ACES ". The "ACES" project, `A Card for
Every Student,' is a. ground breaking initiative between the Anaheim Public
Library and the Anaheim Union High School District. We are the pioneers
paving the way for future library card drives. There are approximately 31,000
students in the District. To date 17,448 of the junior and high school students
have an Anaheim Public Library card, doubling the amount of students that
had a library card prior to the partnership. The remaining students will have
their APL library cards by the end of 2014. The Anaheim Public Library
eCard offers student the use of free eBooks and online databases.
The third major initiative was the partnership between the Anaheim Public
Library and the Anaheim Public Utilities Department. The Utilities
Department wanted to distribute LED light bulbs to their utility customers.
The Library wanted to reach out to non -users and encourage them to visit one
of the Anaheim's Public Library branches. The utility customers were given a.
coupon by the Utilities Department that they could take to their local branch
library and use to get a free LED light bulb. When the resident came to one of
the Anaheim Public Library branches, they were encouraged to sign up for a
library card if they didn't already have one. To date 35% of the Utility
customers that were not Anaheim Public Library card holders signed up for a
library card.
In Fiscal Year 2014/15 we will continue the ACES Project and the LED
partnership with the Utilities Department. In addition, the approval of two
full -time positions for the Library will enable us to focus on offering new
services and programs that benefit children and teens in neighborhoods and
communities identified in the Anaheim Youth Assessment Study.
The Anaheim Public Library Board appreciates the commitment and support
that the City Council has given the Anaheim Public Library system.
Respectfully submitted:
