COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairman Manes, Vice Chairman Brennan and Commissioners Navarro, Levy, and Jensen
COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioners Lappin and Anderson
STAFF PRESENT: Lynn Smith Community Services Manager, Larry Pasco Parks Manager, Pamela Galera Principal

CALL TO ORDER Chairman Manes called the meeting to order at 5:41 p.m. and introduced newly appointed Commissioner
Jensen.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Chairman Manes led the Pledge of Allegiance.
INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS
A.Written Communication None.
B.Unscheduled Oral Communication from the Public None.
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Chairman Manes presented the May 28, 2014 Minutes to the Commissioners for changes
or corrections. Commissioner Levy made a motion to accept the minutes, seconded by Vice Chairman Brennan. There being
no further additions or corrections, Chairman Manes accepted the Minutes.
NEW BUSINESS
A.Traffic Diverters on streets around Pearson Park Doug Park, Principal Transportation Planner with Public Works
Department, presented information on the Pearson Park neighborhood traffic calming pilot project and answered
questions regarding the reason for the project occurring, parking, and traffic during events held at Pearson Park
Amphitheater.
B.Park Rangers Adam Litwin, Community Services Specialist, along with Senior Park Ranger Blair Spielman and Auxiliary
Ranger Carlos Cervantes, presented information on the new tablet software system used by the Park Rangers to record
patrols completed and generate statistics and information for the monthly Park Ranger Report. Questions were answered
regarding any problems staff had with the tablets, how many locations were patrolled by the Park Rangers, how many
times they were patrolled per day, and how many staff members were in the Park Ranger Program.
C.Chairman Nominations & Election for FY2014/2015 - Chairman Manes opened the nominations. Commissioner Levy
made a motion to nominate Andrea Manes to remain Chairman of the Parks and Recreation Commission and Mike
Brennan to remain Vice Chairman of the Parks and Recreations Commission. Commissioner Jensen seconded the
motion. Motion passed unanimously.
D.Discussion and Appointment of Senior Citizens Sub-Committee Members Chairman Manes stated there were two (2)
vacancies for the Senior Citizens Sub-Committee. Lynn Smith stated Commissioner Jensen may need until the next
meeting to bring nominations to the Parks and Recreation Commission at which time and the Commission can appoint
new members. Commissioner Jensen stated she had a few people in mind and asked for names of anyone interested.
REPORTS
A.Recreation and Human Services April/May Lynn Smith presented the report. Lynn highlighted the Fun on Wheels
mobile after-school program and reported a $20,000 donation was received from The Disneyland Resort to host a Family
Eco-Fun Faire at Oak Canyon Nature Center.

Commissioner Navarro questioned if a permit was issued for a Medieval Jousting event held at Modjeska Park in early
June that was attended by at least 100 people. Lynn Smith stated any group of 25 attendees or more would require a
permit to hold an event at a facility and will look into this event.
B.Parks Activity Report May/June Larry Pasco presented the report and answered questions regarding park monument
signs, donation of benches, and the memorial grove dedicated to Christopher Jarvi. Larry stated the new contractor,
Valley Crest, is having difficulties getting up to speed with the maintenance of parks on the west side of Anaheim and staff
continues to meet with the contractor to correct current issues. Larry also reported that 13 trees were cut down and
vandalized at Ronald Reagan Park.
C.Park Ranger Patrol Statistics Report June: Lynn Smith presented the report.
D.Parks Capital Project Progress Report Larry Pasco presented the report, provided updates, answered questions
regarding the status of the Ball Road Basin property; and reported on the following projects:
La Palma Park Dog Use Area City Council awarded the contract on July 17 and construction will begin soon.

Area is scheduled to open Thanksgiving week.
Miraloma 50% of construction is complete. Project is scheduled to be completed this fall.
Circle Park Project is scheduled to be completed in spring 2015.
Olive Hills Park Dog Use Area Staff is working with the consultants to complete plans. Construction is scheduled to
begin this fall.
Paul Revere Park Project is scheduled to be completed this fall.
E.Senior Citizen Sub-Committee Report None.
INFORMATIONAL ITEMS Chairman Manes reported the Packing House is now open.
