Analyst, COA A G E N D A A C T I O N T A K E N 1.CALL TO ORDER: Chair Maya called the meeting of the Cultural and Heritage Commission to order at 6:35 p.m. Chair Maya welcomed the guests present and asked for introductions. 2.SCHEDULED COMMUNICATION:Norma Kurtz,Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for Heritage Museum of Orange County,spoke about the upcomingexhibit that exploresmodes of travelthrough the United Stateshistory. The exhibit will be on displayfrom October 5, 2014toNovember 16, 2014 from9:00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Kevin Cabrera,Curator and Teacherat the Heritage Museum,describedthe exhibit that includeswhere, how,and from whom the information and displays were collected and how the people arrived inAnaheim and other parts ofthe country. Dan Finley, Executive Director of MUZEO,presentedhis plan regardingthe importance of theMUZEO being knownas a Museum. He stated that the City of Anaheim haswonderful history and culture behind it,and it should be displayed and shared educationally with students. 3.UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: None. 4.CORRESPONDENCE: None. 5.APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Commissioner Ruelas made a motion to approve the minutes for the July 17,2014 meeting; Commissioner Roditis made a second and the motion passed. 6.OLD BUSINESS: A. SB 1432 and AB 1662 Letter of Support:None. B. City Public Arts Projects:Chair Maya described his concept of the public arts project. He viewed this function as separate from the Commission as it would have a paid liaison to work on many projects. Chair Maya stated that he will research it and present it at the next meeting for discussion. C. Summer Art Workshop Proposal:Janis Heckel reported on the request from the Commissioners to use funds in the Anaheim Community Foundation account to hire a face painter as part of a fundraising event. Janis stated that it is possible, but the fund was established to support the Center Gallery. She suggested that there were other opportunities the Commissioners could use to replenish the funds. Commissioner Roditis asked if there was a space in Anaheim Hills that the Commission could use for a gallery. Janis stated she will report back on possible space for a gallery and check the account balance in the Foundation. Dog Monument-Artist Recommendation: Janis Heckel introduced Lylyana Bogdanovich, Senior Administrative Analyst with the CitOffice, who answered questions regarding the selection of Susan Bahary as the artist to create the two dog monuments. Commissioner Roditis stated that the funds were raised privately for this project; however, questioned who will maintain the monument. Lylyana stated that she would assume that the Parks Division would maintain the monument as it will be on a city park. Chair Maya made a motion to approve the artist and selection; Vice Chair Pettigrew made a second and the motion passed. 8. GALLERIES SUB-COMMITTEE: Chair Maya inquired about any projects or events that were coming up. Janis informed the Commission that one of the selected artists was contacted by Ryan Spagg nine (9) months ago and she was mistakenly not placed on the list for an exhibit. Janis apologized for the oversight and the Commissioners agreed that the artist should have the option to display per her original selection. Staff will contact her and schedule for an upcoming exhibit. 9. ARTIST IDENTIFICATION SUB-COMMITTEE: Vice Chair Pettigrew stated that he provided a picture of where the artwork was displayed and that the QR was located below the art. Janis suggested contacting Community Development to see if they were interested in this project for the public art on Center Street Promenade. 10. INFORMATION ITEMS: Due to the lengthy presentations, Chair Maya made a motion to postpone the information items for the Commissioners with the exception of staff information items; Commissioner Roditis made a second and the motion passed. Commissioner Ruelas: None. H. Staff: Janis Heckel provided follow-up on the Commissioners inquiry about placing an art article in the Anaheim Magazine and what topic would they prefer. The Commission agreed that the article should be about the Center Gallery and that there were already great photos of the art. Janis stated that she will gather the photos and forward them to the Commissioners for their review and noted that the article will be published in the Spring issue. Jane Newell reported that this was her last year processing the Mills Act applications and there will be about 25 applications forwarded to the Planning Department for next year. Jane stated there are three (3) Capital Projects she will be working on with Naomi Gruenthal (Associate Project Planner, Parks Division) and Jim Wilson (Architect for two (2) of the projects). Jim will help by providing the Engineer and Electrical Engineer to evaluate the Mother Colony House. Jane also noted that she recently reviewed concepts for the shade project between the Carriage House and the Pump House Park and the consultant would like to give a presentation to the Commission. Lastly, Jane stated that she received assistance with the electrical issues found during the kitchen remodel at the Woelke-Stoffel House. Thursday, September 18, 2014, 11.
