CALL TO ORDER –The agenda having been posted at11:00 a.m. onDecember 2,2014, the regular meeting of the
Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to orderbyChair Mathisen at 6:38p.m.

I.INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS:
A.INTRODUCTION OF NEW FULLT-TIME LIBRARY STAFF: Audrey introduced Nissa Perez-
Montoya, Principal Librarian–Children’s Services, Emily Otis, Librarian, Katrina Ford, Library
Assistant –Bookmobile and Joe Purtell, who was promoted to Supervising Librarian.
B.FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The December book sale raised
$300.00. DVDs and CDs were the biggest sellers. The Friends have a couple of potential new
members. Special thanks to Lori Shensky for the beautifulflyers she makes for the Friends and to Rick
Brown for his help with the book sales.The Friends have donated $5,000 to the 2015 Initiativeto
Increase Circulation.
C.FRIENDSOF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY REPORT: The November 17-22, 2014 Book Sale
was a huge success. People who donated 5 non-perishable food items for 2nd Harvest received a bag
they could fill with books for no cost. As in the past, those visiting the sale brought donations in order
to make room for what they were going to purchase at the sale, so donations were way up that week.
Their 50+ members are to be congratulated for their support of and the success of the sale. Then of
course there is Larry Rushing whose continual efforts makes all this possible. On November 25, 2014,
two FOCAL members attended the City Council Meeting when FOCAL, the Ebell Club of Canyon
Hills,and the Anaheim Public Library Foundation were recognized for funding the design and
construction of the Canyon Branch quiet study rooms.On December 4, 2014, FOCAL members
attended the Dedication of the new enclosed quiet study rooms and also provided some of the
refreshments.FOCAL continues to share our generous donation with other APL libraries.The FOCAL
Holiday part was held on December 7.
D.ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT:The Foundation sponsored bookmark

contest for K-8grade studentswas successful.The winningbookmark is being mailedout as a
fundraiser.Work has begun on the 2015Authors Luncheon.

II.APPROVAL OF MINUTESOF THE OCTOBER 13, 2014MEETING: The minutes of the October 13, 2014
meeting were carried over for approval due to lack of voting eligible Board Members.
III.UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
A.DISCUSSION OF ELECTION OF OFFICERS: A discussion was held onthe timing of the elections.
IV.NEW BUSINESS:
A.LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING: Approval of the full 2015 Meeting Schedule will be

carried over to the January meeting when all of the Library Board Members can have input.

B.REVISED COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT POLICY: The Board added wording to include that the
policy is endorsed by the Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees and referencing the policy on the

V.INFORMATION
A.CITY LIBRARIAN’S REPORT:
The Library is working with the Altrusa Club of Anaheim to apply fora“One Book, One City” Grant.
The book will be the Maltese Falcon.

Staff is looking forways to fund a float in the 4of July parade advertising the Summer Reading
Program.
The Library has applied for the National Medal for Museum and Library Service, which honors
institutions making significant and exceptional contributions to their communities and the Library
Community Aware award in addition toseveralother awards and grants.
A contest was held to name the 2015 initiative to raise circulation, the wining slogan is “APL, Check
it Out.”
The ARTIC VIP Opening was held on December 8. Many people stopped by the booth and were
impressed to see a library presence.
The ribbon cutting ceremony was held for the Canyon Hills Library quiet study rooms.

C.LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: The new State Librarian will be visiting Anaheim in the near future.

STAN OFTELIE –On November 7, the 4annual Gift of History event was held at Anaheim Stadium with
over 10,000 books handed out to third grade students. It is now a partnership between Gift of Historyand the
Orange County Literacy Project.
LINELL MATHISEN, CHAIR –Attended the Lioness program at Haskett Library, the Muzeo Quilts VIP
Opening, What it’s Like to Go toWarprogram at the Bowers Museum, the ribbon cutting for the quiet study
rooms at Canyon, the Friends of Canyon Hills Christmas Luncheon, and Ponderosa for an author talk.
MICHELLE MAJEWSKI –Was unable to attend the ARTIC VIP reception due coverage issues at work.
