1. CALL TO ORDER: Vice Chair Pettigrew called the meeting of the Cultural and Heritage Commission to order
at 6:34 p.m.
2. SCHEDULED COMMUNICATION: None.
3. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: None.
4. CORRESPONDENCE: None.
5. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Commissioner Medrano made a motion to approve the minutes for the
November 20, 2014 meeting as amended with correction of name spelling; Commissioner Rodriguez made a
second and the motion passed.
6. NEW BUSINESS:
A. Center Gallery Facebook: Janis Heckel reported that the Community Services Department was advised
to oversee the Center Gallery Facebook page in order to link it to all other City Facebook pages and the
City website. The advertising will be done on a trial basis. The fee of $10 per month will be paid by the
City and will provide promotion of the Center Gallery site to other Facebook viewers with similar interests.
7. OLD BUSINESS:
A. City Public Arts Projects: Agenda item will be deferred to the February meeting. Chair Maya stated at the
November 2014 meeting that he would research and prepare a draft to present to the Commission.
8. GALLERIES SUB-COMMITTEE: Vice Chair Pettigrew stated that he provided four (4) cards of interested
artists for staff to send Center Gallery Applications. Janis Heckel stated applications will be sent.

Vice Chair Pettigrew stated the Center Gallery art exhibit opening on January 8 went well and had good
attendance. Commissioner Hamida encouraged more exhibits that feature multiple artists.
9. ARTIST IDENTIFICATION SUB-COMMITTEE:
A. QR for Public Art: Vice Chair Pettigrew
Promenade. Janis Heckel stated this request will not be addressed by Brad Hobson, Deputy Community
Development Director, until the dissolvent of the Redevelopment Agency is complete. Vice Chair
Pettigrew stated he will contact Brad Hobson to setup a meeting regarding this request. Commissioner
Hamida requested to be invited to the meeting.

C. Commissioner Medrano: Commissioner Medrano reported that he attended the Paul Revere Park

Dedication on January 10.
D. Vice Chair Pettigrew: Vice Chair Pettigrew reported that he also attended the Paul Revere Park
Dedication and commended a job well done to City staff. Vice Chair Pettigrew reported he has art
featured at the current MUZEO exhibit. He stated there are two (2) galleries at the MUZEO and the
current quilt exhibit provides an informational brochure on the exhibit and suggested that all exhibits
should provide information as well. Jane Newell stated it is up to each exhibit to provide their own
literature. Vice Chair Pettigrew stated the MUZEO is not listed in ArtScene, a resource of fine art galleries
and museums of Southern California. Jane Newell suggested emailing information on ArtScene to Dan
Finley at the MUZEO. Vice Chair Pettigrew reported that he attended the ARTIC Opening and suggested
more art information be provided to educate patrons of the facility (i.e., an information wall or electronic
billboards). Commissioner Hamida suggested having an Art Gallery at ARTIC in vacant commercial
space, even on a temporary basis. Vice Chair Pettigrew shared that a tentative installation date for the
art on the stairwell at ARTIC is scheduled for April 2015. Janis Heckel stated she will contact Jaime Lai,
Transit Manager, regarding art being displayed at the facility. Lastly, Vice Chair Pettigrew questioned if a
Commissioner can be a part of the MUZEO Exhibition Committee. Janis Heckel stated she will look into
the MUZEO Exhibition Committee and reminded the Commission that the MUZEO is a private
organization and is not governed by the City. Jane Newell added that people are invited to volunteer and
sit on the board and that it is not a standing committee in which members may not always be asked to
participate on all the exhibits.
E. Commissioner Roditis: Commissioner Roditis reported that he may have one (1) artist interested in an
exhibit for the Center Gallery for November/December 2015.
F. Commissioner Rodriguez: Commissioner Rodriguez reported that 30 Anaheim High School students will

be participating in the park clean-up at Pearson Park on January 19, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday,
for Serve-a-Thon Day. Commissioner Hamida stated she would like to attend. Janis Heckel stated
Savanna High School will be volunteering at Oak Canyon Nature Center and Loara High School will also
participate in the Serve-a-Thon.
G. Commissioner Ruelas: Absent.
H. Staff: Janis Heckel thanked the Commission for attending the Paul Revere Dedication and reported that
the festivities included 200 tri-corner hats being handed out, Officer Eric Anderson rode in on his horse as
Paul Revere and opened the ceremony, three (3) USA Volleyball Olympians signed autographs and
participated with City staff in teaching volleyball, and the fitness equipment vendor was available to show
attendees how to use the exercise equipment. Ms. Heckel reported concrete was poured at the Miraloma
Park and Community Center site. Ms. Heckel shared the rendering art concept of the mosaic bead art
project. The art project will be completed with youth in the area where beads will be mounted into the
steel birds that will be installed on the Community Center. A dedication will be scheduled in March and
invitations will be sent to the Commission. Ms. Heckel reported the Commission will also be invited to the
La Palma Dog Park Dedication. Lastly, Ms. Heckel shared that the California PTA is sponsoring a
program called SMARTS, a parent-engagement program designed to create parent leaders who will
promote a quality and complete education that includes the arts in their schools. This program brings arts

the Mystery Author luncheon will be held on March 29. Ms. Newell reported the microfiche software
equipment will be replaced with funding received from the Anaheim Library Foundation and the Mother
Colony Household, Inc. Lastly, Ms. Newell reported that she also received additional funding from the
