ACTION TAKEN
CALL TO ORDER: Chair Maya called the meeting of the Cultural and Heritage Commission to order at
6:34 p.m.
2. SCHEDULED COMMUNICATION:
A. Chance Theater — Erika Miller, Development Director and Founding Artist, presented information on the
Chance Theater, Anaheim's Resident Theater, Ms. Miller shared that the Chance Theater is a non- profit
theater focused on contemporary stories and has a mission to contribute to a more compassionate, connected
and creative Orange County. The theater invests in local artists, has a works program which involves artists
from all over the nation, offers youth programs, and a vigorous audience engagement program. Ms. Miller
shared information regarding shows scheduled, programs offered to patrons, the expansion of the theater,
fundraisers held for the theater and a challenge capital campaign. The Chance -a -Thon fundraiser is an annual
event where artists and community members alike come together for 24 hours, over a two -day span, to
showcase their work and raise money for Chance's artistic and educational programs. Chance -a -Thon will be
held on March 14 -15, 2015.
3. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: None.
4, CORRESPONDENCE: Chair Maya shared information received regarding the Sacred Arts Festival that is
scheduled for March 21, 2015. Jane Newell reported volunteer docents are needed for the event. Commissioner
Hamida stated she is interested in being a docent and will contact the Anaheim Arts Council. Chair Maya shared
the current Anaheim Art Association Newsletter and the current Anaheim Magazine that features an article on the
Center Gallery.
5. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Commissioner Hamida made a motion to approve the minutes for the
January 15, 2015 meeting; Vice Chair Pettigrew made a second and the motion passed.
6. OLD BUSINESS:
A. City Public Arts Proiects Chair Maya requested for the Commission to prepare a recommendation for the City
Council to appoint a special artist liaison for future facility construction that has a public art component. Janis
Heckel stated a motion can be made at the next Commission meeting to submit the recommendation to the
City Council.
7. GALLERIES SUB- COMMITTEE: Janis Heckel stated City staff is unable to find the promotion for Facebook ads
that Commissioner Hamida referenced for $10 per month, but did find one for $10 per day. Commissioner Hamida
will meet with Ms. Quach to go over the Facebook page. Chair Maya stated there is a capability to boost an
advertisement for a one -time payment and there are boosts that have a logarithm where the more likes and sharing
of the post will extend the advertisement; therefore, the initial cost of $10 is only paid once and not daily. Janis
Heckel stated this trial will be used for the next Center Gallery opening. Commissioner Hamida also requested that
an 'event' be created on the Center Gallery Facebook page to be sent out to all those that 'like' the page.
Janis Heckel reported the Center Gallery art exhibit by Clara Josephs scheduled for September will need to be
postponed to a later date in 2016 due to a family illness. The Commission will go over applications for possible
exhibits to be scheduled for September /October and November/December.
Janis Heckel stated the next opening at the Center Gallery is on March 5' for the Zoey Stevens exhibit. Invitations
have been mailed out.

8, ARTIST IDENTIFICATION SUB - COMMITTEE:
A. OR for Public Art Vice Chair Pettigrew reported the QR symbol can be placed in various places and
suggested that the QR symbols be placed at the Center Gallery openings. Janis Heckel stated she will look
into it. Vice Chair Pettigrew requested for this agenda item to be tabled until the dissolvent of the
Redevelopment Agency is complete.
9. INFORMATION ITEMS:
A. Commissioner Hamida Commissioner Hamida requested an update regarding the request to have art be
displayed at ARTIC. Janis Heckel reported she spoke with Jaime Lai, Transit Manager, regarding the
possibility to place a monitor onsite to promote Anaheim cultural arts, including the Anaheim Ballet, Orange
County Symphony, MUZEO and Center Gallery exhibits,
Ms. Heckel also reported having an art exhibit onsite is not feasible due to the lack of funding for staff and
resources to open an art gallery space. Commissioner Roditis suggested an art casing be installed in the
corridor walkway of ARTIC. Chair Maya reminded the Commission that ARTIC intended to have a public art
piece and not any type of art is being displayed at this time.
Commissioner Hamida requested for art to possibly be displayed at the Packing House. Jane Newell stated
that photographs were provided to the Packing House and have yet to be used. Ms. Newell also stated the
Packing House is privately run and will need to be contacted.
Chair Maya suggested the Commission look into making a recommendation to include an art space in future
development of retail areas in the City.
Commissioner Hamida requested for the Commission to be involved with art elements that will be placed at
future City projects. Janis Heckel stated that most art components of a City project is presented to the
Commission after community input is received.

D. Vice Chair Pettigrew Vice Chair Pettigrew reported he will share interested artist information for a possible
exhibit. Vice Chair Pettigrew also encouraged continuing various ways of advertising art,
E. Commissioner Roditis Commissioner Roditis requested the possibility of displayed art at a coffee shop or the
corridor walkway at the ARTIC.

H. Staff Janis Heckel reported the MUZEO Exhibit Selection Committee recently became an active committee
again after several years and may seek representation from the Commission in the future. Ms. Heckel stated
the Center Gallery will be listed in the next publication of the Art Scene visual art source and will also be listed
on the Orange County's Visitors and Convention Bureau Calendar. Ms. Heckel reported an invitation for the La
Palma Dog Park Opening scheduled for March 7` and the Annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon scheduled
for March 18` have been mailed to the Commission. Ms. Heckel shared the conceptual design of the
Ponderosa Park and Family Resource Center and stated the art component will be shared with the
Commission after community input is received.
Jane Newell reported she worked with the Public Information Office to film video clips "Reflections on Anaheim"
where artifacts are shared. These video clips will be available on YouTube. Ms. Newell also stated she was
contacted by the curriculum office of Westmont School to give the same experience during a tour of Woelke-
Stoeffel House for disabled students. Ms. Newell stated she was able to present a virtual experience and
shared photos and information an Judge Howard with the children that were unable to go inside.
10. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2015, at 6:30 p.m, at the Downtown
Anaheim Community Center, 250 Center St., Anaheim CA 92805.
