CALL TO ORDER — The agenda having been posted at 11:00 a.m. on June 1, 2015, the regular meeting of the
Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Mathisen at 6:31 p.m.
PRESENT: David Robert "DR." Heywood, Michelle Majewski, Linell Mathisen, Stan Oftelie, Kenneth
Shimogawa
STAFF: Audrey Lujan, City Librarian, Nissa Perez -Montoya, Principal Librarian, Thomas Edelblute, Senior
Library Services Manager, Rosemarie Perrone, Librarian, Jennifer Foxx, PT Senior Secretary
GUESTS: Betsy Kasten, Friends of the Canyon Hills Library
L INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS:
A. FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The Mixed Media Sale is August 15. They
are in need of donations to sell in their book nooks. The Friends are looking at events to attend and promote
themselves.
B. FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY REPORT: The Friends enjoyed the "Books on the Go"
presentation by Rosemarie Perrone at their May 21, 2015 meeting. They currently have 21 members. The
next Book Sale is July 20-25. FOCAL continues to fund Talks & Treats, Children's Summer Reading
Fun, Special Summer Programs and prizes, and refreshments for monthly book talk visits to three senior
residences. The possibility of FOCAL offering a scholarship for library sciences education pursuits at a
University was suggested. It was decided to gather more information to consider in the future. The
next meeting is July 16, 2015
C. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The Mystery Authors Luncheon raised
$32,655 in profit, up from $20,000 last year.
D. UNSCHEDULED ORAL COMMUNICATION: Audrey introduced Thomas Edelblute who was recently
promoted to Senior Library Services Manager — User Support Services.
E. WRITTEN COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: Audrey shared a thank you letter to Bookmobile from
WAND for attending their annual BBQ and a card from the students of Centralia Elementary School.
IL APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE MAY 11, 2015 MEETING: MOTION: That the Board approve the
minutes of the May 11, 2015 meeting as presented. M/S: SO/DR 3 Ayes.
III. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None
IV. NEW BUSINESS:
A. SUMMER READING PROGRAM PRESENTATION: Nissa Perez -Montoya presented the Summer
Reading Program plans for children, teens, and adults.
B. PRESENTATION TO OUTGOING LIBRARY BOARD MEMBER: Audrey recognized outgoing Library
Board Chair Linell Mathisen.
C. ELECTION OF CHAIR: MOTION: That the Library Board nominate and elect D.R. Heywood as
Chair for a term to October 2015. M/S:SO/KS 5 ayes

D. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL: Audrey informed the Board that she is
gathering information for the report.
E. EUCLID/SUNKIST LIBRARY RENOVATION: Staff has been meeting with the Architect. Due to
limited funding most of the improvements will be made to Euclid, with Sunkist getting minor renovations.
F. DRAFT POLICY FOR WITHDRAWL OF LIBRARY MATERIAL: Audrey reported that a policy is being
drafted per a request made at the May meeting and will be brought to the Library Board for approval when it
is completed.
V. INFORMATION
A. CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT:
• We did not receive the One Book, One City Grant, but we would like to go forward with The Big Read
and will be partnering with Altrusa.
• The preliminary budget was presented to City Council on June 2, 2015.
B. PUBLICITY: Included in packet.
C. LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: None.

A. CENTRAL ADULT & YOUTH SERVICES ACTIVITIES & STATISTICS: Included in packet.

VII. MONHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: The Board
recognized the Haskett teen volunteers who stepped in and taught a class on creating comic books when the
presenter did not show up. They also recognized Katie Brazer, Orange County Healthy New Americans
Program Coordinator, for her continuous support in offering Immigration workshops to the Anaheim
community.
VIII. BOARD ITEMS
LINELL MATHISEN, CHAIR — Checked out a book from "Books on the Go" at ARTIC and asked how long
it takes after you return the book to show up as returned on your account. Linell attended the Dog Tag Tales
program at Ponderosa.
MICHELLE MAJEWSKI — Attended the Foundation's Mystery Authors Luncheon in March and thought it
was amazing.
KENNETH SHIMOGAWA — Shared that his wife and son enjoy the early storytime at Haskett Library.
STAN OFTELIE — None.
D.R. HEWYOOD, VICE CHAIR — Thanked Linell for her service and congratulated her on her retirement.

A. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be Monday, July 13, 2015, at the Central Library
