CALL TO ORDER — The agenda having been posted at 11:00 a.m. on July 7, 2015, the regular meeting of the
Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Acting Vice Chair Shimogawa at 6:38 p.m.
PRESENT: Linda Esping, Stan Oftelie, Kenneth Shimogawa
ABSENT: David Robert "DR." Heywood, Michelle Majewski
STAFF: Nissa Perez -Montoya, Principal Librarian, Jennifer Foxx, PT Senior Secretary
GUESTS: Helen Carter, Friends of the Anaheim Public Library
L INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS:
A. ADMINISTER OATH TO LIBRARY BOARD MEMBER: The Oath or Affirmation of Allegiance for
Public Office and Employees was administered to Linda Esping.
B. FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The Mixed Media Sale is August 15. An
ad is being placed in the newspaper advertising the sale. They are also submitting an article on the former
Treasurer, Jennie Van Delden, who served the Friends for 27 years. Donations are still needed for book
nook sales.
C. FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY REPORT: The summer book sale will be held July 20-
25. In addition to books and media, they will be selling dolls, silver serving pieces, framed artwork, etc.
The $1 a bag sale will be on July 25, at 1pm. Canyon Hills Library hosted the 34th annual Teddy Bears'
Picnic at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 11; all kids were invited to bring a blanket and a favorite stuffed animal
and to enjoy Twinkle Time, a fun, high energy, family-oriented band. FOCAL and Canyon Hills Women's
Club sponsored the band. The next meeting will be held in the Multipurpose Room of the Canyon Hills
Library at 10 am on September 17.
D. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: None.
E. UNSCHEDULED ORAL COMMUNICATION: None.
F. WRITTEN COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: None.
IL APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE JUNE 8, 2015 MEETING: The minutes of the June 8, 2015 meeting
were carried over for approval due to lack of voting eligible Board Members.
III. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None
A. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL: A draft letter will be presented to the
Board for review at the August meeting.
IV. NEW BUSINESS:
A. WELCOME/INTRODUCTION OF NEW LIBRARY BOARD MEMBER: Newly appointed Library Board
Member Linda Esping was introduced.
B. ELECTION OF CHAIR: Postponed to August meeting when more Library Board Members are in
attendance.

C. APPROVAL OF THE TUTORING IN CITY OF ANAHEIM LIBRARIES POLICY: MOTION: That
the Library Board approve Tutoring in City of Anaheim Libraries Policy as presented.
M/S: SO/LE — 3 ayes.
D. BUDGET: No new information at this time.
V. INFORMATION
A. CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT:
• Nissa thanked the Friends of the Canyon Hills Library on behalf of Audrey for their generous
sponsorship of the float in the Canyon Hills Community Council's 4"' of July Parade.
• The Children's Summer Reading Program is going well with 1,275 children registered as of July 13,
having read approximately 6,482 hours with about 2 weeks left to go.
B. PUBLICITY: Included in packet.
C. LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: None.
VI. ACTIVITY REPORTS
A. CENTRAL ADULT & YOUTH SERVICES ACTIVITIES & STATISTICS: The Board requested to have
a summary sheet for the system -wide statistics.
B. OPERATIONS ACTIVITIES: Included in packet.
C. BRANCH SERVICES: Included in packet.
VII. MONHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: The Board
recognized Library staff who worked the 4"' of July parade and Mary Nuttelman for her wonderful Storytimes
at Haskett.
VIII. BOARD ITEMS
STAN OFTELIE — None.
LINDA ESPING —None.
KENNETH SHIMOGAWA — Enjoys the morning storytime for kids at Haskett Library and appreciates the
wonderful staff, especially Mary Nuttelman. Kenneth asked if the Haskett Library parking lot that is shared
with the park could be designated as library parking only.
IX. MISCELLANEOUS
A. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be August 10, 2015, at the Haskett Library
