CALL TO ORDER — The agenda having been posted at 11:00 a.m. on September 8, 2015, the regular meeting of the
Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Heywood at 6:40 p.m.
PRESENT: Linda Esping, David Robert "DR." Heywood, Michelle Majewski, Stan Oftelie,
Kenneth Shimogawa
STAFF: Audrey Lujan, City Librarian, Thomas Edelblute, Senior Library Services Manager, Cynthia Hicks,
Supervising Librarian, Joe Purtell, Supervising Librarian, Jennifer Foxx, PT Senior Secretary
GUESTS: Helen Carter, Friends of the Anaheim Public Library
L INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS:
A. FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The August 15"' sale was very successful
raising over $500.00. The Friends will be assisting with the Hispanic Heritage Month book sale at Central.
Their annual meeting will be held on November 23, 2015. The book nooks continue to bring in over
S 1,000 a month. East Anaheim sent over seven boxes of media for the Friends to sell.
B. FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY REPORT: Volunteer hours totaled 250.25 for July and
144 for August for a total of 394.25 hours for the 2 months. FOCAL is investigating improved signage for
their book sales. Plans are underway to celebrate Friends of The Library Week October 18-24 with a
display in the library. Officers for 2015-16 will be: Betsy Kasten, President - Louise Fry, Vice -President,
Donna Clark, Treasurer - Kris Lasher, Secretary - Barbara Rosen, Membership - Larry Rushing, Book
Sales. The next FOCAL meeting will be on September 17, 2015 in the MPR at Canyon Hills Library.
C. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The Foundation will continue funding
$30,000 for APL eBooks. They plan to hold four author events per year, in addition to the Mystery
Authors' Luncheon, including one for teens.
D. UNSCHEDULED ORAL COMMUNICATION: None.
E. WRITTEN COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: None.
IL APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE JUNE 8, 2015 MEETING: MOTION: That the Board
approve the minutes of the June 8, 2015 meeting as presented. M/S SO/KS - 4Ayes.
B. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE JULY 13, 2015 MEETING: MOTION: That the Board approve
the minutes of the July 13, 2015 meeting as presented. M/S LE/SO - 3Ayes.

III. UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
A. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL: Revisions to the letters were
discussed. MOTION: That the Library Board approve the Report to City Council on the condition
of the libraries as amended for Fiscal Year 2014/15 per the Anaheim Municipal Code, ARTICLE
IX. APPOINTIVE BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS, Section 908 and authorize David Robert "DR"
Heywood, Chair to sign on behalf of the Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees. M/S:SO/LE 5
ayes
B. APPROVAL OF THE POLICY FOR WITHDRAWL OF LIBRARY MATERIALS: Revisions to the
policy will be made to include the Friends of the Library in the policy section as well as the procedure
section. The revised policy will be placed on the October 2015 agenda.
C. APPROVAL OF THE POLICY FOR LIBRARY MATERIALS DONATIONS: Revisions to the policy
will be made to include donations of video games and other misc. items. The revised policy will be placed
on the October 2015 agenda.
D. EUCLID/SUNKIST REONVATION: The Library now has an additional $140,000 thanks to Thomas
Edelblute's suggestion the Euclid/Sunkist items on the Facility Maintenance replacement schedule be
moved to this fiscal year. Both facilities will have restrooms renovated to ADA standards.
IV. NEW BUSINESS:
A. ELECTION OF CHAIR:
MOTION: That the Library Board nominate and elect David Robert "DR" Heywood as Chair of
the Library Board to a term of October 2016. M/S: SOLE 5ayes
B. ELECTION OF VICE CHAIR: MOTION: That the Library Board nominate and elect Kenneth
Shimogawa as Vice Chair of the Library Board to a term of October 2016. M/S: SOLE 5 ayes
C. JUDGES FOR ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY/ALTRUSA CREATIVE WRITING CONTEST FOR
PONDEROSA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Linda Esping and Stan Oftelie will serve as judges for the
Creative Writing Contest.
D. PUBLIC WORKS COMPONENT REPLACEMENT SCHEDULE: Audrey shared the Public Works
Component Replacement Schedule for the Library Division.
V. INFORMATION
A. CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT:
The Anaheim Reads kick-off event is scheduled for January 30, 2016 with the Chief of Police as the
guest speaker. Funding for Anaheim Reads is being provided by the Anaheim Police Department,
Altrusa of Anaheim, Anaheim Public Library Foundation, and the Friends of the Canyon Hills Library.
Anaheim Public Library is meeting with Kumar to possibly have a Makerspace at Ponderosa Joint -Use
Library.
B. BUDGET: Expenditure reports will be provided quarterly.
C. PUBLICITY: Audrey shared an article in the Foothills Sentry regarding the Summer Reading Program.

D. LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: The State Librarian is surveying all public libraries as to their needs.

VII. MONHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: None.
VIII. BOARD ITEMS
MICHELLE MAJEWSKL Attended the Friends of the Canyon Hills Library book sale. Anaheim High School
has started advertising the Library's Hispanic Heritage Month programs in their video announcements. A
student shared that she is a volunteer at Central Library and that teen volunteers are being recruited for the
Library. Michelle has made applications available at Anaheim High School.
KENNETH SHIMOGAWA: Enjoyed his ride -a -long on the Bookmobile.
STAN OFTELIE —None.
CHAIR DAVID ROBERT "DR." HEYWOOD: Officially welcomed Linda to the Library Board.
LINDA ESPING — Enjoyed attending the Library Division staff meeting and handing out the Library Board
Certificates of Recognition.
IX. MISCELLANEOUS
A. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be October 12, 2015, at the Euclid Library.
