CORRESPONDENCE: Vice Chair Pettigrew informed the Commission of an invitation to the International Educators' Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony received from Commissioner Adelekan. The event isbeing held on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the Church of Scientology — Grand Auditorium in Santa Ana. Vice Chair Pettigrew also provided information from a postcard received on the California High Speed Rail Community Open House Meetings. The dates and locations are October 15^'atART|C.October 2G~atthe Fullerton Public Library and October 28th at the Buena Park Community Center. He also passed around the Anaheim Art AssodationNewsletter for the Commission to review. 5. GALLERIES SUB -COMMITTEE: Janis reported that staff isworking onthe upcoming exhibit bvYoon000k Rvangthat will beinstai|adnext month, Janis reported that the artist tscurrently out ofthe country and the tentative recept�on date is Thursday, November 12th to be confirmed when the artist returns buthe U,S. Janis announced that the 2O18Center Gallery calendar is almost complete with artists that had tupost-pone exhibits previously scheduled io2U14and 2015. Janis noted that there isstill opening for the January and February exhibit and she asked for any recommendations for artists. V�oeChair Pettigrew ask ifScott Moore was one ofthe artists onthe list for 201G. Janis informed Vice Chair Pettigrew that Scott Moore declined the offer hzexhibit, Vice Chair Pettigrew asked if the Center Gallery exhibits could be placed onthe City Info App. Commissioner RodiUustated hahas used the app before. Vice Chair Pettigrew provided alink tothe City Info App tnJanis, and she will research and report back atthe next meeting, Vice Chair Pettigrew also asked about the large digital monitors outside of the ARTIC for promoting the Center Gallery exhibits. Janis stated that they have very strict guidelines for those monitors and the exhibits do not meet the criteria. Vice Chair Pettigrew inquired about the progress of the shade sails for the Pearson Park Amphitheatre. Janis noted that the Pageant of the Masters director of maintenance has yet to return her phone call. Vice Chair Pettigrew asked Janis if anyone has contacted the local schools, community colleges and universities for possible applicants, Janis stated that she would have staff explore that suggestion. Commissioner Adelekan reiterated Vice Chair Pettigrew's earlier announcement regarding the Induction Ceremony for the International Educators' Hall of Fame being held on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the Church of Scientology of Orange County in Santa Ana. CommisoionerAde|ekan also reported that R.YT.M.(}. (Reaching Youth through Music Opportunities) iaone ofthe inductees along with international inductees. C. Absent. D. Commissioner Roditis. Commissioner Rodriguez informed the Commission that hewill be attending the International Educators' Hall ofFame Induction Ceremony with several of his students. Commissioner Rodriguez noted that Anaheim High School is holding their 5th Colony Classic Car Show onOctober 17mfrom 1Q:OOe.m, to2:OOp.rn.and it's free. Commissioner Rodriguez will also be participating inthe Halloween Fall Festival Parade onOctober 24.2O15. H, Staff: Janis Heckel distributed a copy of staff naport, prepared by the Convention, Sports and Entertainment Department, with the resolution supporting the Anaheim Performing Arts Center that was recently adopted at the October 6th City Council meeting. Janis stated that Anaheim Performing Arts Center Foundation (APACF) members have attended past commission meetings. APACFimonon-profit organization raising funds for aper-forming arts center inAnaheim. Janis noted that efeasibility study was done and it was concluded that the City has a very strong market for arts, theater, pop music concerts hosupport onew performing arts center, Janis noted that this imaresolution ofsupport and that there are mumonetary ties hothe resolution, Janis reported that the Anaheim Arts Councilwill beconducting their annual Art |nPublic Places recognition on Thunsdoy. November 5th . in the City Council Chambers. Janis noted that Commissioner Hamida has brought forth murals from local Anaheim restaurants, and she encouraged the Commission to attend the meeting stating that a reception is held at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting/presentations are at O:OOp�m. Janis reported that the Anaheim Ballet performed at the opening of L.A. Fashion Week on October 7~' stating that this was overy big honor for the Anaheim Ballet. Janis noted that Commissioner Hamida asked if there was information on the restoration of the mural located across from the Little People Park. Janis reported that the mural loonprivate property and the artist's son was involved inrestoration efforts, Janis announced that the 2 rd Annual "Day of the Dead" a Night of Community and Culture will be held on Friday, October 30, 2015 on the Downtown Community Center lawn from 5:30 p.m. to 9,00 p.m. Janie stated that high school students will build altars for the event to raise money for the Project Save A Youth (S.&Y.)proQnsm. Janis report that the Anaheim Fall Festival has new activities incorporated into this year's event. She stated that itvviU be held for three days-, Friday will be carnival rides. Saturday will bethe traditional festival with information and game booths and the parade ot6PM. (}nSunday, there will beapancake breakfast and float viewing. Cultural and Heritage Commission 1OV15/2D15 Page AGENDA ACTION TAKEN Jane Newell reported that on Tuesday, November 1 O'� the Library Foundation will present the Emmy Award winning documentary "The Legacy of Heart Mountain," Jane stated that the handout she provided ismpicture of the descendants of Doha Vicenta Sepulveda Ceni|kz They attended the Open House atFounders' Park nnSaturday, October 3'~ Jane noted that Dona Vicenta raised four teenagers in the Mother Colony House in the early 1870's. One ofthe descendants' children drew a picture of how they envision Doha Vicenta would look in her youth, The gentleman holding the painting in the picture in 09 years old. Jane reported that school tours had started; there will be 3 rd graders on Thursday and Friday mornings and tours are booked through the end ofJanuary 2O18. She also mentioned that onSaturday, November 21s'they will be decorating the houses at Founders' Park for the Holidays, if anyone would like to volunteer to help, please let her know. Jane noted that most ofthe Mills Act programs have been placed under the Planning Department, however she will be helping applicants with their surveys and reviewing them. Twenty-two surveys atthe end ufJuly met the deadline; 1A-2Oofthe applications were approved and submitted. Jane announced that the Kromer Building will be one ofthe Mills Act recipients. Jane noted that she is working with the Lab on a project called "Flash Back Fridays" and contributing photos with historic trivia information tmplace ontheir website. Jane stated that the last flash back was onbeer making atthe Anaheim Brewery. She also submitted photos and trivia onthe Fall Festival and some ofthe businesses along Center Street.
