Anaheim Blvd., 2nd Floor 6:30 p.m. Anaheim, CA 92805 AGENDA ACTION TAKEN 1. CALL TO ORDER The meeting of the Cultural and Heritage Commission was called to order by Chair Murray at 6:38 p.m. COMMISSIONERS PRESENT STAFF PRESENT Gary Murray, Chair Bill Calkins, Recreation Services Manager Christie Romero, Vice-Chair Beth Lapkowski, Division Secretary Maria Leano Elsie Reed COMMISSIONERS ABSENT Belal Delati Connie Flores Margaret LeVecke GUESTS None. 2. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC None. COMMUNICATION: 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes for the March 24, 2006 meeting were approved as written. 4. CULTURAL ORGANIZATION Charlotte Brady presented information about Anaheim Sister Cities PRESENTATIONS: Committee to the commission and answered questions. She also distributed membership applications to the commissioners. 5. CULTURAL AND HERITAGE Chair Murray indicated he hasn't received any information CENTER UPDATE—Gary Murray/ regarding the Cultural and Heritage Center since their last meeting Jane Newell: in January. 6. CULTURAL PLAN PRIORITY Bill Calkins discussed the Art in Public Places Brochure and asked SHORT-TERM ITEM—Art in for design suggestions from the commission. Chair Murray Public Places Brochure- Bill Calkins: suggested the commission needs to get the information together and present it to City Council to get funding. Commissioner Reed indicated the Arts Council might be able to help with funding. Commissioners felt having the Public Art information available on the internet would be another low-cost way to make the information to a large number of people. p . • • Cultural & Heritage Commission Minutes of the Meeting of April 24, 2006 Page 2 AGENDA ACTION TAKEN Commissioners also discussed development of a "notebook" displaying public art and other Cultural/Heritage information. Bill Calkins indicated that the Art in Public Places Brochure could be one part of the entire marketing package and that it all would fit together to create the website. Charlotte Brady, who is also a member of the Arts Council, volunteered to send the Arts Council list via e-mail to help the commission with preparation of the brochure. 7. INFORMATION ITEMS: Chair Murray mentioned he received invitations to several upcoming events, including the WAND Barbeque on May 13th at Twila Reid Park, the Haskett Library grand opening, and the Arts Council Soiree on April 29tH Bill Calkins announced the Children's Arts Festival, sponsored in conjunction with the Arts Council, will be an all-day event held on May 20th at the Center Street Promenade. He indicated Disney's 50th Anniversary Band will play at the end of the day at the Pearson Park Theatre. Bill also mentioned the Cinco de May event will be held May 4-7 at La Palma Park. The festival will include live entertainment,food, etc. 8. ADJOURNMENT Chair Murray adjourned the meeting at 8:30 p.m. NEXT MEETING The next meeting will be Monday, May 22, 2006, at the Anaheim Public Library, 500 W. Broadway, 2nd Floor, Anaheim, at 6:30 p.m.
