6. NEW BUSINESS: Janis Heckel reported that a meeting has been scheduled with the Community
Development Department to discuss a pilot project to install QR signs on Center Street Promenade public art.
As a pilot project, staff would like to install 2 — 3 signs at a cost of $25 each to see if they are utilized. Brent
Dennis questioned how many pieces of art there are on Center Street and Janis Heckel stated there are
approximately 12 art pieces where QR code signs could be installed.
7. OLD BUSINESS:
A. Arts Council Meetings: Commissioner Adelekan reported that she attended the first Anaheim Arts
Council meeting of the year on September 8, 2016. Commissioner Adelekan stated that the highlight of
the meeting was the performance of a very talented youth mariachi band, Los Sanchos. A member of
Los Sanchos spoke on behalf of the band about youth in the arts.
Commissioner Roditis questioned if the Arts Council discussed the possibility of youth joining the
Anaheim Arts Council. Commissioner Adelekan stated that the main topic of the meeting was the need
for funding, which is needed for scholarships and to update the Arts Council's website.
Janis Heckel reported that the next Anaheim Arts Council will be on Thursday, October 6th
Commissioner Roditis volunteered to attend the meeting.
B. Public Art Projects:
1. ARTIC — Janis Heckel stated that an installation date for the Grand Staircase art is still pending.
Janis Heckel has contacted the staff at ARTIC to request for the next Commission meeting to be
held onsite so the Commission can view the video monitor and see the demo steps of the
staircase art. Janis Heckel will notify the Commission if the meeting location is approved.
2. Ponderosa Community Center - Janis Heckel reported that the project just broke ground and the
artist providing the public art component will attend a commission meeting to share the art

developing a Poet Laureate program. The information will be shared with the Commission in the near
future.
8. GALLERIES SUB -COMMITTEE:
Chair Pettigrew reported the opening reception for photographer Tom Lamb was well attended. Mr. Lamb is
well known for his aerial photography.
Chair Pettigrew stated that Tom Lamb is represented by an art gallery in Laguna Beach and often time these
artists cannot have an exhibit outside of the gallery that represents them. Since the Center Gallery does not
charge a commission for any works possibly sold through the exhibit, it may promote additional artists being
interested in submitting a Center Gallery application.
Commissioner Adelekan stated that Tom Lamb is known for his technique of taking pictures while in motion.
Commissioner Filbeck questioned how many applications have been received and if any were submitted by
young artists. Janis Heckel stated eight applications were received and we do not ask for age so it was
unknown if any of the applicants were young. Janis Heckel encouraged the Commission to invite any artists
to submit an application. Commissioner Adelekan questioned if the artist has to be from Anaheim. Chair
Pettigrew stated anyone can apply. Commissioner Adelekan requested for the Commission to have input on
the artists selected for the Center Gallery. Janis Heckel indicated that the Center Gallery sub -committee is
responsible for reviewing and recommending the artists selected to exhibit. The selected artists are presented
to the Commission for final approval. The 2017 artists were presented at last month's Commission meeting.
9. MURAL SUB -COMMITTEE:
Commissioner Roditis stated that the first Mural Sub -Committee meeting will be held after the Commission
meeting and a committee chair will be elected.
