CALL TO ORDER — The agenda having been posted at 11:00 a.m. on January 3, 2017, the regular meeting of the
Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Laviguer at 5:07 p.m.
PRESENT: Linda Esping, "DR." Heywood, David Laviguer, Stan Oftelie
STAFF: Audrey Lujan, City Librarian, Thomas Edelblute, Senior Library Services Manager, Keely Hall,
Principal Librarian, Jennifer Foxx, PT Senior Secretary

L INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS:
A. FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The Board voted to donate $5,000 toward
a new Bookmobile. The Book Nook receipts remain steady, over 51,000 monthly. The Central Book
Nook and East Anaheim supports this as does Euclid now that the branch has reopened. The Friends have
purchased a table for the Anaheim Public Library Foundation's Mystery Author's Luncheon. The Friends
are always looking for new Board Members.
B. FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY REPORT: The Friends of Canyon Hills will host "Book
Burning" by Dr. Kai Evers, a special presentation in conjunction with the Anaheim Public Library's Big
Read "Fahrenheit 451" on February 4, 2017. FOCAL is analyzing effective ways to unite donated books
with readers. The next FOCAL meeting is January 19, 2017 in the Canyon Hills Library MPR at 10:00
a.m.
C. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The Foundation is now accepting
reservations for the Mystery Authors Luncheon that will be held March 19, 2017. The Library Board
agreed to fund the inside cover of the Luncheon's program.
D. UNSCHEDULED ORAL COMMUNICATION: None.
E. WRITTEN COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: Audrey shared patron comment forms from Canyon
Hills Library.
IL APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE DECEMBER 12, 2016 MEETING: MOTION: That the Board
approve the minutes of the December 12, 2016 meeting as presented. M/S: SO/LE 3 Ayes.
III. UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
A. LIBRARY HOURS OF OPERATION: A discussion was held on the Library Board's recommendation
regarding weekend hours. The Library Board recommended the inclusion of the consideration of Library
hours, including weekend hours, to be part of the Community Services Masterplan study of programs and
services in order that all Anaheim residents can be surveyed as to their preferences.

V. INFORMATION
A. CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT:
• Audrey thanked Stan and Linda for being judges for the Altrusa Creative Writing Contest at Ponderosa
Elementary School.
• The Big Read "Fahrenheit 451" opening reception is January 28, 2017.
• The Board will work with Anaheim Beautiful to investigate the possibility of a memorial tree for former
Library Board Member Kenneth Shimogawa.
• Plans continue for renovation of the Central Green Space.
B. BUDGET: Supplementals are being submitted for one-time money for security cameras at Founders' Park
to ensure the safety of patrons and staff. A supplemental is being submitted for ongoing funding for a full-
time Principal Librarian at Ponderosa Joint -Use Library.
C. PUBLICITY: Included in packet.
D. LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: None.
VI. ACTIVITY REPORTS
A. STATISTICS: Changes to the statistical reporting for website views will be investigated.
B. ACTIVITY REPORTS: Activity reports will only be available online and not be included in the packet
that is mailed to the Board.
VII. MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: The Board
recognized Jane Newell for all that she does.
VIII. BOARD ITEMS
D.R. HEYWOOD: Asked if the vacancy on the Library Board will be filled immediately
VICE CHAIR, STAN OFTELIE: None.
LINDA ESPING: None.
CHAIR, DAVID LAVIGUER: Wished everyone a Happy New Year and is looking forward to the exciting
things coming up at the Library this year.
IX. MISCELLANEOUS
A. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be February 13, 2017 at the Sunkist Library.
B. ADJOURNMENT: Chair Laviguer adjourned the meeting at 6:40 p.m.
