CALL TO ORDER — The agenda having been posted at 11:00 a.m. on April 4, 2017, the regular meeting of the
Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Laviguer at 5:02 p.m.

L INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS:
A. FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The Friends expressed their gratitude to
Lori Shensky. She did their ad for the Mystery Authors Luncheon program, made the flyers for the recent
Multi -Media sale with no reminders from the Friends, and made bright pink bookmarks with the dates of
future sales printed on them. April 8t'' was the most successful quarterly sale they have had recently raising
$512.31. The next sale is August 5t'' at the Central Library. The Book Nook continues to do well and
magazine donations are up. They received a fairly healthy check from Better World Books.
B. FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY REPORT: None,
C. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: Jennifer read a letter from the Foundation
thanking the Library Board, Friends of Anaheim Public Library, and Friends of Canyon Hills Library for
their support of the 2017 Mystery Authors' Luncheon.
D. UNSCHEDULED ORAL COMMUNICATION: None.
E. WRITTEN COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: None.
IL APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE MARCH 13, 2017 MEETING: The minutes of the March 13, 2017
meeting were carried over for approval due to lack of voting eligible Board Members.
III. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None,
A. MEMORIAL TREE AT HASKETT FOR FORMER LIBRARY BOARD MEMBER KENNETH
SHIMOGAWA—Postponed to a future meeting.
IV. NEW BUSINESS:
A. CENTRAL GREEN SPACE — Pamela Galera and Joe Purtell presented plans for the Central Green Space.
V. INFORMATION
A. CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT:
• Joe reported that the Library applied for the National Endowment of the Arts Big Read Grant for 2018.
The book will be Into the Beautiful North.

B. BUDGET: Thomas reported that the budget has been submitted.
C. PUBLICITY: Jennifer shared an article from the Anaheim Independent featuring Foundation Luncheon.
D. LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: Thomas reported that SCA 3 -to allow a 55% vote for Library Bond
Construction passed first committee.
VI. ACTIVITY REPORTS
A. STATISTICS: Jennifer shared the statistical reports that the Library Board will be receiving. Stan
requested information on year to date donations collected monthly.
B. ACTIVITY REPORTS: None.
VII. MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: Stan recognized
David for his suggestion to have the Library Board packet reports posted online rather than mailed which
saved time, paper, and printer supplies. The Board recognized Katrina Ford for securing the Mental Health
Training Grant which allowed training of staff on mental health first aid as well as library materials on mental
health.

D.R. HEYWOOD: Enjoyed the Mystery Authors' Luncheon.
VICE CHAIR, STAN OFTELIE: None.
CHAIR DAVID LAVIGUER: Reapplied for the Library Board.
IX. MISCELLANEOUS
A. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be May 8, 2017 at Haskett Library.
B. ADJOURNMENT: Chair Laviguer adjourned the meeting at 6:02 p.m.
