Budget Investment Technology 2017/06/14June 14, 2017
TO THE HONORABLE CITY COUNCIL:
The Budget, Investment and Technology Commission (Commission) is pleased to serve
as representatives of the community and review the City's proposed annual budget. The
Commission (previously known as the Budget Advisory Commission) was established by
the City Council in 1991. This Commission is charged with the examination of the City's
financial condition, policies and procedures, as well as the review of the annual budget
proposed by the City Manager pursuant to Section 1.04.996 of Chapter 1.04 of Title 1 of
the Anaheim Municipal Code. The Fiscal Year 2017118 proposed budget marks the
twenty-sixth proposed annual budget the Commission has had the opportunity to review.
In order to make all City commissions reflective of the by -district election system, new
members were appointed in April 2017. The newly appointed Commission's first
meeting was held on May 24, 2017. As a recently reconstituted Commission, the
members have not had sufficient time to review the budget to make an official
recommendation to the City Council. However, as a commission, there are several areas
we wish to further explore including: innovative revenue prospects, escalating pension
costs to City taxpayers, investing in community development and opportunities for
expenditure reductions.
We are thankful for the opportunity to serve and we look forward to providing feedback
on the FY 2017118 budget.
Respectfully submitted,
ANAHEIM BUDGET, INVESTMENT AND TECHNOLOGY COMMISSION
