1965/07/01Date: MINUTES ANAHEIM STADIb~ COMMISSION July 1, 1965 Place: Anaheim City Hall Conference Room PRESIDING OFFICER: The meeting was called to order by Chairman Coons at 2:10 P~Mo PRESENT COMMISSIONERS Rex Coons Charles Currier Richard Glover ABSENT COMMISSIONERS Paul Hnghes Harry Knisely ALSO PRESENT: Tom Liegler, Stadium Manager Alan Watts, Deputy City Attorney Phil Hanf, Anaheim Bulletin Jack Boettner, Los Angeles Times Ken Gedney, Owner's Representative, Anaheim Stadium APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of! J~ne 24, 1965 were approved as written with the exception of the following correction made by Mro A]an Watts~ The second sentence under "Explanation of Documents for Convention C.~.n~.er" should read~ "Mr~ Watts explained that the Community Center Authority is analogous to and fulfills the same purpose for the Convention Center as the Anaheim Stadium, Inc. (Non-profit) is for the Anaheim Stadium°" STADIUM REVIEW COMI~ITTEE Mr~ Liegler reviewed several items that were discussed at the last Stadium Review Committee meeting on June 25, 1965o <1) Included in the number of turnstiles for the stadium, there will be four (4) portable turnstiles° The reasons were- one to meet the demands of the crowd and two~ also for football° These portable turn- stiles could aiso be osed in the outfield if needed, at a later date° Regarding the parking lot plans, Mr~ Liegler reported that Mr. Piersall has met with the Edison Company in regards tc mcving the power towers° The Edison Company is willing to move the towers to the north side of Orangewood Avenue, but the telephone company has lines the~eo Mr~ Piersall is meeting with the various parties converned in order to work out moves agreeable to everyone° Another item discussed was a loading dock for concessions supplies and stadium supplies° The loading dock wo~ld be on the ground level, right field exterioro The loading dock was not in the original plans, but if enough money is available it will be included° ANAHEIM STADIUM COMMISSION MEETING July 1, 1965 STADIUM CONSTRUCTION REPORT - Ken Gedney Mro Gedney, Owner's Representative for the Anaheim Stadium reviewed in detail the preparation involved in the monthly Progress Reports made by his office° It was Mr~ Gedney's opinion that the contractor is one month behind schedule as of this date. In regards to the strike, Mr. Gedney said that if the strike is settled in the near future (few weeks), the time lost in the last three weeks could be recovered. If the strike continues for a longer period of time, he said we are in "trouble"° As of June 1, 1965, the project is 25% completed° There are $5~ million uncormnitted funds at the present time° Mr~ Coons asked if all of the subcontracts have been committed? Mr. Gedney replied that the painting, plastering, seeding, millwork and the main roofing contracts have not been awarded as yet° He explained that in the next Progress Report the total sub- contractual bids will probably be included. Mro Coons questioned if the local contractors are included on the bid list? They are if they are qualified° All qualified contractors are given an equal opportunity to bid° The Commissioners expressed their appreciation to Mro Gedney for his time and a job well done° CONVENTION CENTER BONDS Mr. Watts reported that on Monday, June 28, 1965 the money was received for the bonds° He stated that the construction contract has been entered into and they will start construction as soon as the strike is over~ The strike is the only thing that is holding them upo ADJOURNMENT: Commissioner Glover moved that the meeting be adjourned at 3:55 P.M.
