1965/04/22M I NUTES ANAHEIM STADIUM COMMISSION DATE: April 22, 1965 PLACE: Anaheim City Hall, City Council Conference Room PRESIDING OFFICER: Rector L. Coons, Chairman The meeting was called to order by Chairman Coons at 1:40 P.M. PRESENT; ALSO PRESENT: COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Rector L. Coons, Chairman Charles Currier Dick Glover COMMISSIONERS Paul Hughes Harry Knisely Tom Liegler, Stadium Manager Alan Watts, Deputy City Attorney Ralph Pease, Assistant City Engineer Phil Hanf, Anaheim Bulletin APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the meeting of April 15, 1965 were approved as written and mailed. PARKING LOT LAYOUT Mr. Ralph Pease presented the basic parking lot layout as of this date, He explained that the plans are not finalized but the Commission would be able to get an idea of what some of the problems are. He described the theories and rejections of past presentations. Mr. Pease said that they have a figure from the Angels as to how long it takes a car to go through a cashier (in seconds). He explained that there is informa- tion coming from Houston to further verify this figure. If these figures are correct they w~ll be able to take the cars into the stadium faster than they can flow from the streets. At the present time there are 9,900 parking spaces which will probably be increased to 11,900 and this figure is 100 less than the 12,000 guaranteed to the Angels. In summarization, Mr. Pease and Mr. Liegler stated that there are many details that have to be finalized before the plans are complete. PROPOSAL ON INFORMAL GROUP Mr. Liegler and Mr. Watts presented their recommendation to the Commission re- garding the formation of an informal group. It was as follows: ANAHEIM STADIUM COMMISSION MINUTES April 22, 1965 PROPOSAL ON INFORMAL GROUP (Continued) "The Stadium Commission hereby recommends that the Stadium and Convention Center Manager be authorized to seek advice and counsel from an informal group composed of representatives from Disneyland, Melodyland, Anaheim Union High School District, and the Anaheim Area Visitors and Convention Bureau, in order to avoid a conflict in bookings of a common nature and to attract (1) Conventions, (2) Trade Shows, (3) Theatricals, (4) Sporting Events, (5) and other productions of acceptable standards." During the discussion that followed Commissioner Currier presented the hypothetical situation where the informal advisory group would reject our inquiry of any promoter and then turn around and schedule the promoter them- selves. The Commission replied that the group is, as stated, an advisory group only and the decision will remain with the Stadium and Convention Center Manager and the Stadium Commission. MOTION: Commissioner Glover moved to approve the proposed statement of policy as outlined in relation to an informal group. Seconded by Commissioner Currier. Motion carried. ADDITIONAL REVIEW OF RENTAL POLICIES The typed copies of the breakdown prepared by Commissioner Hughes were distributed to the Commission for addition to their portfolio. Mr. Liegler suggested that further review be postponed until the next meeting when Commissioner Hughes would be present. REVIEW OF NOTES BY CONVENTION CENTER ADVISORS Mr. Liegler had obtained copies of past memorandums of meetings between the City and advisors for the Convention Center. From these memorandums he will prepare a synopsis of the various items of interest to the Commission, and submit it at the next meeting.
