AGENDA ACTION TAKEN
1. CALL TO ORDER: Vice Chair Chuchua called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Vice Chair Chuchua.
3. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: Carol Latham, representing the Anaheim Arts Council, provided a brief
background of the Poet Laureate process.
4. CORRESPONDENCE: Vice Chair Chuchua shared the monthly Anaheim Arts Council newsletter with the Commission.
5. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Vice Chair Chuchua presented the January 18, 2018 minutes to the Commissioners for
changes or corrections. Commissioner Alvarez made a motion to approve the January 18, 2018 meeting minutes,
seconded by Commissioner Pettibone. The motion was approved with five votes in favor; Vice Chair Chuchua accepted
the minutes.
6. PREVIOUS BUSINESS:
a) Public Art Protects:
1) City Ordinance: Anaheim Sporn reported a roundtable has been formed for the Public Art Projects. The
Commission is encouraged to work with the roundtable to complete a letter of support for the program. Vice
Chair Chuchua attended the first roundtable meeting and provided a brief overview. Chair Hamida stated the
sub -committee will work together to move forward with the program with the community driven aspect.
Commissioner Alvarez stated a Comprehensive Plan will be completed for this project.
b) Multi -Cultural Event:
1) Proposal: Anaheim Sporn clarified the process of proposing the event and answered questions. Staff will get
more clarification from Brent Dennis and provide information to the Commission.
c) Poet Laureate:
1) Approval of Recommendation: Commissioner Pettibone provided the Commission with the background of the
process in selecting a Poet Laureate. Grant Hier was the selected applicant for the Poet Laureate.
Commissioner Pettibone made a motion for the Commission to move forward with the selection of Grant Hier to
be the City's Poet Laureate, seconded by Commissioner Daniels. The motion was approved with five votes in
favor; Vice Chair Chuchua accepted the motion.
7. SUB -COMMITTEES:
a) Center Gallery: Vice Chair Chuchua attended the Center Gallery opening reception on religious paintings. Anaheim
Sporn reported the next exhibit, "Hawaii Life", opening reception will be on March 1s'

b) Public Art Program: Vice Chair Chuchua stated he attended the Ponderosa Park Family Resource Center and
Gymnasium Grand Opening. The new art mural is a mosaic of glass that was inspired by the youth community.
Chair Hamida stated a working group will continue to work on the Public Art Projects City Ordinance.
c) Multi -Cultural Event: None.
d) Poet Laureate: None.
e) Heritage: Commissioner Daniels shared ideas of installing place markers at historic sites for the City to recognize.
8. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS: Commissioner Daniels stated he attended the Anaheim Parks Plan Steering Committee
meeting and provided an update for the Plan.
Anaheim Sporn reported she was contacted by the Community Development Department. The Anaheim Canvas art
competition will be taking place for the development on Beach Boulevard. A judge is needed from the Commission to sit
on the competition panel; Chair Hamida volunteered to help out with the judge panel.
9. ADJOURNMENT: Vice Chair Chuchua adjourned the meeting at 7:24 p.m.
