Golf 2005/12/01COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: CITY STAFF PRESENT: VALLEYCREST: CALL TO ORDER GOLF COMMISSION MINUTES December 1, 2005 — 5:00 p.m. Chairman Wright Vice -Chairman Schultz Commissioner Gaby Commissioner Kresal Commissioner McCulloch Michael Lautenbach, Bob Johns, Dave Johansen, and Gail Barruga Kevin Neal, Golf Course Superintendent Chairman Wright called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. PUBLIC COMMENT There were no comments. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Vice Chairman Schultz made a Motion, seconded by Commissioner McCulloch, to accept the Golf Commission Meeting Minutes of October 27, 2005. Motion passed. ACTIVITY REPORTS A. Golf Manager Michael Lautenbach reported the agreements with Bob Johns and the new Anaheim Hills GPS system are scheduled for approval by City Council at their December 20, 2005 meeting. Michael reviewed the results of the GPS bids and the features of the successful bidder's system with the Commission. Vice -Chairman Schultz asked how the system will be financed. Michael Lautenbach stated through the fee increase and advertisements on the system. There is no cost to the Golf budget. Michael Lautenbach stated there will be an all inclusive fee to include green fee, cart and GPS, there will no longer be a separate GPS fee. The green fee at Anaheim Hills during the week the fee will be $44 and $59 on the weekends. Residents will pay $49 weekends; Senior's fees during the week will be $30. Vice -Chairman Schultz expressed his concern with the fee increase for those who did not choose in the past to purchase the GPS feature. Also there is no improvement to the course for the fee increase. Commission Gaby stated the new GPS system is an improvement. Chairman Wright stated the pace of play will improve. Michael Lautenbach stated there was already a $2 fee increase prior to the new GPS system. Now, there is a $2 fee increase that includes the new GPS system. Michael Lautenbach stated 70% of the golfers at Anaheim Hills use the GPS system. Chairman Wright asked what the status of the Tiger Woods Learning Center. Michael Lautenbach stated the remodel has been completed and the Learning Center is a separate construction project from Golf Operations. Michael Lautenbach stated the Center is 90 — 95% completed, grading of the old driving range is almost complete. Michael Lautenbach stated February 10, 2006 is the dedication date which is being conducted by the Tiger Woods Foundation. At the request of the Tiger Woods Foundation the Dad Miller golf course will be closed for the dedication ceremonies. Commissioner Gaby asked about the status of the phone service from the new driving range to the golf operations office. Why was the "ring down" system chosen over walkie-talkies, or a cell phone? Michael Lautenbach stated he needed a hard line service over the other choices available due to the interference factor. The golfer picks up the receiver and it rings automatically in the golf operations office. Golf Commission Minutes December 1, 2005 Page Two B. Golf Course Superintendent Dave Johansen reviewed the previous month's report with the Commission, highlighting the new drainage in the #18 fairway and #15 bunker. The AquaPhyD system will be installed at Dad Miller in the next week. Chairman Wright asked if yardage markers could be installed at Dad Miller in the middle of the course. Michael Lautenbach stated there are markers, and at one time balls were used as markers, however, they were often stolen. Bob Johns stated about half the fairways have the markers. C. Director of Golf Bob Johns stated all is going well. Commissioner Gaby asked how the Golf Shop sales are doing for the holidays. Bob Johns stated the "Crazy Bob Sale" is in full swing and sales are good. FINANCIAL REPORT A. October Financial Summaries Michael Lautenbach reviewed the financial reports with the Commission, stating October was a great month all around. OLD BUSINESS A. Golf Commission's Review of Golf Operation's RFP/Bids Michael Lautenbach stated the Commission may review of RFP's and make suggestions regarding the project, however, city staff is responsible for the development the final RFP. B. Golf Commission Meeting Time Michael Lautenbach stated the City Council stated all commission meetings were to start either prior to the start of the business day or after 5:00 p.m. The Commission members may request from the City Council a change of time and/or frequency. NEW BUSINESS None ADJOURNMENT Commissioner Gaby made a Motion, seconded by Commissioner McCulloch, to adjourn the meeting to January 26, 2006, in the Conference Room #1 at 5:00 p.m. There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
