GOLF COMMISSION MINUTES
September 22, 2005 — 4:00 p.m.

Chairman Wright called the meeting to order at 5:03 p.m.
PUBLIC COMMENT
Mrs. Kresal stated she belongs to two golf groups and both groups recently played at Anaheim Hills.
She reported that each occasion was a positive experience especially the customer service provided
by the staff.
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
Vice Chairman Schultz made a Motion, seconded by Commissioner McCulloch, to accept the Golf
Commission Meeting Minutes of August 25, 2005. Motion passed.
ACTIVITY REPORTS
A. Golf Manager
Michael Lautenbach reported the AquaPhyD agreement had been approved. Installation will
be in approximately two to three months. Vice Chairman Schultz asked if the equipment will
help prevent the wet areas on the course at Anaheim Hills. Dave Johansen stated in many
cases the wet areas are caused by soil compaction and AquaPhyD's equipment will assist in
reducing the compaction and salinity of the soil. The process will provide more uniform
water penetration of the turf, thus reducing the amount of water usage. AquaPhyD will
receive payment based on the City's water savings.
Michael Lautenbach provided updates on the current projects including the RFP for a new
GPS system. Michael Lautenbach stated he expects the new GPS system to be installed
early 2006.
Chairman Wright asked about the status of the flag pole installation at Anaheim Hills.
Michael Lautenbach reported the contractor has completed all requested work by the City's
Inspectors and is awaiting final inspection prior to issuance of a permit. Chairman Wright
stated she has a flag from Congressman Miller's office which flew over the capital that can
be used at the course.

B. Golf Course Superintendent
Dave Johansen reviewed the past month's report with the Commission. Vice -Chairman
Schultz stated at Anaheim Hills he had seen several trees on the course located to the right
of hole #8, that appear to be overgrown with branches about to break. Vice -Chairman
Schultz asked if the Arborist hired to provide information on the Oak trees identified these
trees for removal. Michael Lautenbach stated Valley Crest had removed a limb from an Oak
tree within the past few days. The Arborist that was hired to evaluate 10 specific trees on
the course, located near the hole #10. As a result of the Arborist's findings several trees
were removed.
Vice -Chairman Schultz asked if the maintenance crew could be more observant in notifying
and/or making repairs at the course. The fence between the #13 green and hole #14 has a
huge dent in the fences and the supporting pole. The fence behind #11 has been in
disrepair. Who is responsible for the repairs, the contractor or City? Michael Lautenbach
stated staff determines who is responsible for the damage (i.e. contract employee, or golfer)
and repairs are made accordingly.
C. Director of Golf
Bob Johns reported the new range at Dad Miller has opened. Bob Johns reported he has
several new employees at the Hills which are providing great customer services. Chairman
Wright asked about the customer service improvements at Dad Miller. Bob Johns stated the
staff's customer service is improving.
FINANCIAL REPORTS
A. August Financial Summaries
Michael Lautenbach reviewed the financial reports with the Commission. Michael
Lautenbach stated he anticipates the driving range figures will increase with the opening of
Dad Millers' new driving range.
OLD BUSINESS
A. Dad Miller Golf Course Modifications
Michael Lautenbach reported a media event is in the planning stages to celebrate the
opening of the new driving range at Dad Miller, and will be held approximately October 25tH
There will be special pricing for a bucket of balls and greens fees. Nick Kumpas will provide
an instruction clinic.

Commissioner Schultz asked if the new driving range at Dad Miller has sand traps and
bunkers similar to the old driving range. Michael Lautenbach stated chipping greens were
included, but the bunkers and grass tee lines were not part of the agreement. Vice -
Chairman Schultz asked if these could be added to the capital improvement list. Michael
Lautenbach stated they could be added to the list.
Michael Lautenbach provided an update on the construction of the Tiger Woods Learning
Center. The projected completion date of is the end of November, with an opening of the
Center in early 2006.
NEW BUSINESS
There were no new items.
ADJOURNMENT
Vice -Chairman Schultz made a Motion, seconded by Commissioner Kresal to adjourn the
meeting to October 27, 2005 at 5:00 p.m. in the Community Services Department's
Conference Room #1. The Motion passed. There being no further business the meeting
adjourned at 6:05 p.m.
