Golf 2011/04/28GOLF COMMISSION MINUTES April 28, 2011 — 5:00 p.m. Anaheim Hills Golf Course — Clubhouse Boardroom COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: CITY STAFF PRESENT: CITY STAFF ABSENT: VALLEY CREST PRESENT: CALL TO ORDER Chairman Don Heinbuch Commissioner Patty Gaby Commissioner Bud Schultz Vice Chairman John McCulloch Commissioner Skip Keys Michael Lautenbach, Bob Johns, and Eleanor Granflor Dave Johansen Kevin Neal, Regional Golf Course Superintendent Chairman Heinbuch called the meeting to order at 5:02 p.m. PUBLIC COMMENTS - None to report. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Commissioner Gaby made a Motion to accept the Golf Commission Meeting Minutes of March 24, 2011. Commissioner Schultz noted minor corrections and seconded the Motion to approve March Minutes as corrected. Motion passed. ACTIVITY REPORTS A. Golf Superintendent Michael Lautenbach presented his report. Commissioner Schultz questioned if greens at Anaheim Hills Golf Course can be rolled since they are bumpy. Michael Lautenbach stated the greens will be looked at with Todd Shank, Valley Crest Golf Course Superintendent, and will respond to Golf Commission at the May meeting. Kevin Neal stated verticutting rather than rolling the greens will be more effective against bumpiness. Michael Lautenbach stated Vice Chairman John McCulloch has resigned from his position on the Golf Commission. Commissioner Schultz questioned if there is a way to track repeat customers. Michael Lautenbach stated player history can be tracked, as long as the customer's information is in the point-of-sale system. B. Golf Course Superintendent Michael Lautenbach presented the Golf Course Maintenance report. C. Director of Golf Bob Johns presented his report. Golf Commission Minutes April 28, 2011 Page Two FINANCIAL REPORT Michael Lautenbach stated in addition to the continuing bad economy, business was seriously impacted by rain for almost a week. OLD BUSINESS A. Dad Miller Golf Course 50 -year Anniversary Michael Lautenbach stated Dad Miller Golf Course will have its 50 -year anniversary this fall and asked Golf Commissioners for any suggestions regarding the celebration. Chairman Heinbuch suggested the following: • Rollback of green fees • Display historic pictures of the golf course • Invite Tiger Woods to the golf course, along with other professional golf players • Pre -sale event Commissioner Gaby suggested the following: • High School player reunion • Cake celebration, golf balls on a tee cake pops • Anniversary golf balls given to attendees • Memory Wall • Event to be held during the weekend Commissioner Schultz suggested the following: • Clinic on the driving range • Spruce up the golf course with flowers and landscaping • Tour of Dad Miller Golf Course and Tiger Woods Learning Center • Demo day with various golf vendors NEW BUSINESS A. FY 2011-2012 Budget Michael Lautenbach presented the Proposed FY2011-2012 Golf Budget and answered questions. Commissioner Gaby questioned if there is a reserve fund to improve the golf courses. Michael Lautenbach stated currently there is no reserve fund. Chairman Heinbuch asked about the "miscellaneous professional services" fund. Michael Lautenbach stated this fund was for the JD Power & Associates survey. Chairman Heinbuch questioned the credit card fees paid. Michael Lautenbach stated this is the fee paid to the credit card companies. Commissioner Schultz made a motion to approve the Proposed FY2011-2012 Golf Budget. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Gaby. Motion passed. ADJOURNMENT Commissioner Gaby made a Motion, seconded by Commissioner Schultz, to adjourn the meeting to May 26, 2011 at 5:00 p.m., at Dad Miller Golf Course, Clubhouse Banquet Room. The Motion passed. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 5:46 p.m.
