Commissioner Filbeck noted they still do not have tickets for Disneyland. They
are currently trying to figure out how they are going to pay for them. It was
agreed that whoever purchased the tickets, would be reimbursed by ACF.
Chair Anthony Al -Jamie noted they have eight students coming from Mito, 4
boys and 4 girls and 2 chaperones, Mr. Wong and a female chaperone. The
chaperone requested homestay and he let them know they cannot do homestays
but they can find them a discounted hotel. They responded they do not have a
budget for hotel and requested that they try to find them homestays. They placed
seven of the eight students so far, there is one boy that still needs to be placed
because one family that they thought were going to take two students decided to
take one in the end. They placed the female chaperone with Jennifer Sasai
because there was one young girl who was very nervous to be on her own. Mr.
Wong and one male student still need homestay accommodations. Chair Al -
Jamie is going to reach out to the outbound students that were in the program the

last two years to see if they are interested in hosting, if not he will be a backup
host family.
V. SAYONARA PARTY SUPPORT
Vice Chair Dinwiddie noted she has two options for the Sayonara Party, they can
either order food or she can cater it. She asked if the Commission had a
preference.
Commissioner Taline Cole asked if there was a significant price difference
between the two. Vice Chair Dinwiddie responded yes, it is significantly
significant, it is between $1500.00, ordering food versus $300.00 or $400.00 if
she caters it. Greg noted every year the City participates and sponsors a lunch or
part of the Sayonara dinner, so the City can sponsor that again this year. In
addition, Council Members are invited and have an opportunity to attend and say
good-bye to the students at the dinner.
Vice Chair Dinwiddie asked if there was a preference in the food, and the
Commission decided to go with fried chicken, mashed potatoes, pasta, spaghetti
and salad.
VI. REVIEW OBJECTIVES OF SUBCOMMITTEES AND APPOINT NEW
SUBCOMMITTEE MEMBERS
This item was continued to the meeting in August.
VII. PUBLIC COMMENT
David Bracey reminded the Commission that Sister Cities International Southern
California Chapter would be holding their next meeting on September 15 in
Laguna Beach.
VIII. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS
Vice Chair Dinwiddie requested that appointment of ASCC officers be agendized
for the next meeting.
Chair Dinwiddie asked if staff knew whom the vacant seats on the Commission
had been allocated to and Greg responded those seats were not taken to Council.
Staff is going to wait through summer and then they will go to Council to fill the
vacancies and to have a larger discussion of how the Council is going to want to
reformat the commission.
Vice Chair Dinwiddie announced she plans to do a cookie decorating fundraiser
in September.

Jerry O'Keefe asked if there was some mechanism for Council to recognize
commissioners who are termed out and that have put in so much of their time and
hard work during their time on the Commission.
Greg Garcia answered it has not been the City's practice to recognize
commissioners as they term out, but certainly the Commissioners can bring it to
the attention of the City Council.
IX. STAFF COMMENTS
Greg Garcia introduced Brandon Harper sitting in for Kimberly Kelemen and
thanked him for being there. Brandon will follow up with Kimberly on the action
items from the meeting.
