CALL TO ORDER: Chair Hamida called the meeting to order at 6:31 p.m. 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Commissioner Brunette. 3. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: Larry Pasco introduced himself as the new Community Services Director since April 2018 and gave a brief history of his time here in Anaheim. 4. SCHEDULED COMMUNICATION: None. 5. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Chair Hamida presented the September 20, 2018 minutes to the Commissioners for changes or corrections. Commissioner Pettibone made a motion to approve the September 20, 2018 meeting minutes, seconded by Commissioner Daniels. There were four votes in favor to approve the minutes; Chair Hamida accepted the minutes. 6. SUB-COMMITTEES: a) Center Gallery: Chair Hamida reported the sub-committee met and have chosen three artists to begin the Center Gallery exhibits for 2019. Holly Unruh reported the artists will be contacted to schedule their exhibits. b) Public Art Program: Sjany Larson-Cash reported the City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance recommendation to begin a Public Art Program in the City and gave a brief overview of the ordinance. A task force was created of various community members who have met throughout the last few months. The Public Art Plan will include the goals of public art, best practices, where public art should be installed throughout the City, creative funding sources, and finding out if there is a need to update City regulations to include public art. A group of important stakeholders that should include members of the Commission will put this plan together. A current practice is in place in the Capital Development Section of the Parks Division where public art has been included in capital projects. A Public Art Fund will also be established that can be used in the future to fund permanent art improvements, new art, restoration of older art, and general maintenance of art. Chair Hamida volunteered to participate in the creation of the Public Art Plan. c) Multi-Cultural Event: Holly Unruh reported the proposal for a multi-cultural event has been finalized and will be submitted to the City Council. d) Poet Laureate: Commissioner Pettibone reported Grant Hier participated in the State of California Poet Laureate conference and was mentioned in a Los Angeles Times news article. e) Heritage: Commissioner Daniels reported the proposal for the Heritage Markers Program has been finalized and will be submitted to the City Council. Cultural and Heritage Commission 11/15/18 Page 2 A G E N D A A C T I O N T A K E N 7. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS: Commissioner Daniels recommended for public art to be installed at ARTIC. Commissioner Brunette recommended that dance be incorporated in an event for the disabled and the elderly and for this idea to be agendized on the next Commission meeting agenda. Jane Newell invited the Commission to the Victorian Open House at Founders’ Park on December 1st and December 8th. Chair Hamida reported there will be a “The Power of the Scarf” event on December 3rd at Ponderosa Library and December 5th at Haskett Library. Holly Unruh reported there will be two community tree lighting events in the City on December 7th at Twila Reid Park and December 8th at the Downtown Center Street Promenade. Chair Hamida made a motion to go dark in December, and the Commission will resume in January. There was no second to the motion. The next meeting will be on December 20, 2018. 8. ADJOURNMENT: Chair Hamida adjourned the meeting at 7:16 p.m. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. at the Downtown Anaheim Community Center, 250 Center St., Anaheim CA 92805.
