1. CALL TO ORDER: Vice Chair Chuchua called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Commissioner Daniels.
3. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: None.
4. SCHEDULED COMMUNICATION: Commissioner Brunette introduced Hope Larson to the Commission; Ms. Larson
provided her background about growing up in Communist China, shared photographs of her parents with the leaders from
1962, and described a book that she is in the process of writing about her experiences.
5. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Vice-Chair Chuchua presented the November 15, 2018 minutes to the Commissioners
for changes or corrections. Commissioner Daniels made a motion to approve the November 15, 2018 meeting minutes,
seconded by Commissioner Adelekan. There were six votes in favor to approve the minutes; Vice-Chair Chuchua
accepted the minutes.
6. SUB-COMMITTEES:
a) Center Gallery: Holly Unruh reported that the next Gallery reception will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019, and
stated that invitations will be mailed to the Commissioners next week. She also noted that there are currently two
openings available for 2019. Commissioner Daniels asked about the process for applying to show in the gallery;
Holly stated that she would email him the application.
b) Public Art Program: Holly Unruh reported that the Public Art Ordinance was approved by City Council and
information on the formation of a Public Art Plan will be provided as received.
c) Multi-Cultural Event: Commissioner Alvarez stated that there has been no response from City Council; Holly
indicated that the recommendation for a multi-cultural event was sent to City Council.
d) Poet Laureate: Commissioner Pettibone reported that she speaks with the Poet Laureate on a monthly basis; he has
been quite busy with public events. Commission visitor Nora Montoya stated that she would be interested in
contacting the poet laureate to speak to her writing class; Commissioner Pettibone said she would get her contact
information after the meeting.
e) Heritage: Commissioner Daniels provided additional background on the Heritage Marker Program proposal. Vice
Chair Chuchua signed the recommendation letter in the absence of Chair Hamida. Jane Newell will determine if this
signed recommendation can be sent to council, or if a Chair Hamida is required to sign the recommendation.

7. NEW BUSINESS
a) Performing Arts/Dance: Commissioner Brunette stated that she feels the Commission should focus their attention
more on cultural activities, including arts/dance. Commissioner Alvarez agreed and stated that these items can
be included in the Multi-Cultural Event, with perhaps live recitations from people such as Hope Larsen, holocaust
survivors, and others.
8. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS: Commissioner Daniels mentioned that some of the commissioners have termed out after this
month and he thanked them all for their service and friendship. The commissioners discussed whether to reapply for their
positions and what information was provided to them from the City Clerk’s office when they joined the Commission.
9. ADJOURNMENT: Vice Chair Chuchua adjourned the meeting at 7:23 p.m.

Community Center, 250 Center St., Anaheim CA 92805.
