DISCUSSION:
Susan Kim, Principal Planner, stated back in April 2019, the Planning Commission
reviewed an ordinance that would allow the transformation of motels into permanent
supportive housing, affordable housing, and/or transitional housing. She indicated
that they have their first site which will be going before the City Council to enter into
a memorandum of understanding relating to the site. The site is an Econo Lodge
located at 2691 W. La Palma Avenue, in District 1, and will be before the City Council
on July 16, 2019; and the associated conditional use permit will be before the
Planning Commission on August 5, 2019.
She also stated that at the August 5, 2019 Planning Commission meeting an
ordinance will be before the Planning Commission, to allow permanent supportive
housing in conjunction with an emergency shelter which is an evolving condition as
they are working on their continuum of housing within the city of Anaheim, and
moving from shelter beds to actual supportive housing, and then eventually into other
forms of housing.
She stated she can schedule a briefing on the matters per Commissioner’s request.
