They will be flying into the Haneda Airport with shuttle transportation to Mito. Commissioner Al-Jamie would like to conduct two proper etiquette-training sessions for the six outbound students that are going to Mito, Japan in June. MITO INBOUND STUDENT EXCHANGE Chair Taline Cole reported the Commission is very close to receiving confirmation for the entire suite for the Angel game on Saturday, July 27. The Commission is still looking for someone to teach the students and lead the group when they are in Anaheim. The teacher that has been doing it for the last few years is not available. They are reaching out to a couple of people, but if someone on the Commission knows of someone who is interested to please let Chair Cole know. Preferably, the Commission would like someone who has experience in teaching English to non-native English speakers. The teacher will be paid a $1,000 stipend to teach. Obtaining Disneyland tickets for the students through the Disney website has been more difficult than anticipated. Commissioner Al-Jamie is going to try going through the process and will report to the Commission at the next meeting. The Commission is waiting for a date confirmation from the Mayor’s Office before they put a schedule together for the inbound students. The host family application was updated and posted on the Sister City Commission website. Chair Cole asked the Commission to start getting the word out to families who may be interested and to try to get as many families as they can. Chair Cole reminded the Commission to look for items for the gift bags to give to the inbound students when they arrive. They need sets of 12. VII. FUNDRAISER RECAP Chair Taline Cole reported the Commission made a profit of $3,335.02 at their fundraiser on March 28 at the Anaheim Brewery. They sold forty tickets on-line and about 10 tickets at the door. They heard very good comments from the event and were invited to do another fundraiser at Anaheim Brewery in the fall and Decades Bar and Grill said they would love to host one as well. Overall, the Commission was very happy with the event, the food was great and the people were happy. VIII. ANAHEIM JAPAN FAIR The Anaheim Japan Fair is going to take place on Saturday, May 25 from 11 am to 8pm on Center Street Promenade. Commissioner Anthony Al-Jamie was able to obtain a booth for the fair and they need volunteers to work this event between the 9am and 8pm. They will need flyers and host applications to hand out.
