Public Input: Commissioner Paul Anderson explained that members of the public are invited to
address the Anaheim Sister City Commission and will be called upon under Agenda Item
No. VIII. Public Comment.
I. CALL TO ORDER
Commissioner Paul Anderson called the meeting of the Anaheim Sister City
Commission (ASCC) to order at 4:17 p.m. on Monday, May 20, 2019 at the
Anaheim City Manager’s Office, City Hall, 200 S. Anaheim Blvd., 7th Floor,
Anaheim, California.

III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The consideration to approve the April 22, 2019 Sister City Commission minutes
was continued to the June 24, 2019 meeting because there were not enough
commissioners present at the meeting that were in attendance at the April 22
meeting to represent a quorum.
IV. APPROVAL OF TREASURER’S REPORT
Commissioner Paul Anderson presented the latest copy of the Treasurer’s Report
dated May 16, 2019 with a current balance of $13,996.53. Commissioner
Anthony Al-Jamie noted that the payment of the flights for the outbound students
and chaperones had posted on the account and that they paid a total of $5,775.44
for the tickets.
MOTION: Commissioner Brian O’Neal offered a Motion, seconded by
Commissioner Anna Piercy AND MOTION CARRIED (Vote: 8-0; Absent:
Taline Cole, James Dinwiddie, Lori Dinwiddie, Larry Larsen and Brigitte
Rodgers; and, two vacant seats) that the Anaheim Sister City Commission does
hereby approve the Treasurer’s Report dated May 16, 2019.
V. MITO OUTBOUND STUDENT EXCHANGE
MOTION: Commissioner Anthony Al-Jamie offered a Motion, seconded by
Commissioner Brian O’Neal AND MOTION CARRIED (Absent: Taline Cole,
James Dinwiddie, Lori Dinwiddie, Larry Larsen and Brigitte Rodgers; and, two
vacant seats) that the Anaheim Sister City Commission does hereby approve
travel insurance for the outbound students and the chaperones in an amount not to
exceed $75 per person.
VI. MITO INBOUND STUDENT EXCHANGE
Commissioner Jackie Filbeck distributed a tentative schedule for the Inbound
Student Exchange and went over it briefly.
The students arrive on July 26 at 5pm. She will work with Commissioner Barrot
to put together the welcome reception and everyone is welcome to attend.
Commissioner Filbeck asked that an invitation be extended to the City Council for
the Welcome Reception and the Sayonara Dinner.
On July 27, the tailgate will start at 3:30 p.m. at Angel Stadium and the game
starts at 6:07 p.m.
On Monday, July 30, there will be class time, a fire station tour, lunch at In-n-Out,
a visit to the Mito Bridge and the beach party.

On Tuesday, July 31, the students will have class time where they will learn
history of Anaheim and prepare questions for the Mayor, they get a tour of City
Hall, they will visit with the Mayor or a Council Member, and they will walk to
the Packing House, the Heritage Library and Mito Wall.
On Wednesday, August 1, the Mito students will go shopping at Angel Stadium
and have a pool party at Commissioner Anthony Al-Jamie’s house.
On Thursday, August 2, the Mito students will go to Disneyland.
On Friday, August 3, the Mito students will go shopping at Downtown Disney for
two hours; they come back to the Downtown Community Center where they will
rehearse for the Sayonara Dinner that night. The Commission needs everyone to
be present at the Sayonara Dinner.
Saturday and Sunday are host family time and the students will depart on
Monday, August 5.
Commissioner Al-Jamie reported he submitted an application for the Disneyland
tickets through their website. They had to list thirty-five volunteers to get 10
tickets. They are using the Japan Fair day as the pre-event and by volunteering
for that event; they get tickets for the next event, which is the Mito Student
Exchange. He has not heard back yet, but is expecting to hear back soon.
VII. ANAHEIM JAPAN FAIR
The Anaheim Japan Fair is going to take place on Saturday, May 25 from 11 am
to 8pm on Center Street Promenade. Commissioner Anthony Al-Jamie was able
to obtain a booth for the fair and Commissioners have signed up to work the event
between 9am and 8pm.
Commissioner Anderson asked if staff was able to print the trifold brochure so
that they can have it available to hand out at fair. Kimberly Kelemen responded
staff was not able to locate an electronic copy of it. Kimberly suggested the
Commission could print postcard size cards of the host family add the City puts
on the Anaheim Magazine and Activity Guide. She will send an electronic copy
to Commissioner Anderson.
Commissioner Al-Jamie asked if the table skirt had been ordered. Kimberly
Kelemen responded Commission Jim Dinwiddie was working on ordering the
tablecloth, but the Sister City Commission logo that staff had at the time was not
high resolution enough to be expanded so the graphics team created a new one
and she sent it to him last Friday. Commissioner Dinwiddie was going to see if it
could be turned around in time for the fair.

VIII. PUBLIC COMMENT
David Bracey reported that on May 4, the Sister City International, Southern
California Chapter had their annual election for the officers in Santa Monica and
Commissioner Anthony Al-Jamie was reelected for his 4th term as President.
IX. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS
None
X. STAFF COMMENTS
Kimberly Kelemen reported she had received communication from Pudong and
forwarded on to the Commission. In the message, they apologized for taking time
in responding and expressed interest in sending a delegation to Anaheim.
Kimberly requested an official request from the Commission, perhaps from the
Chair to pay each of the outbound chaperones a $500.00 stipend, as she will need
that to request the check.
XI. ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 5:06 p.m. to Monday,
June 24, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. at the Anaheim City Hall, City Manager’s Office
Large Conference Room.
