Preliminary Recommendations
What is working
Current multi-family residential standards by
bedroom count
What could be adjusted
Limit number of tandem spaces based on the
size of the project
17
18
Optional Bedrooms
Current Definition:
"Bedroom” …having seventy (70) square
feet or more of floor area, or less than fifty
percent (50%)of the total length of any
wall open to an adjacent room or hallway,
shall be considered a bedroom

Developer Outreach
Current private street standards requiring
on street parking make projects infeasible
Adjust private street standards prior to
parking standards changes
Current projects exempted
20
Overall Findings and Observations
Our single-family parking standards are, on average, lower for
larger homes than most other comparable cities
Even with projects exceeding Code, parking problems exist in
newer single-family developments with larger homes and
private streets
Our multi-family parking standards based on bedroom count
are average when compared to other cities
Anaheim is the only city that requires guest parking inclusive
of the overall required parking
Unrestricted tandem parking for multi-family projects could
pose a parking issue for projects that take advantage of it
21
22
Recommendations
Increase single-family guest parking standards for new
projects based on bedroom count
1-5 bedrooms: ½ guest space
>6 bedrooms: 1 guest space
Review private street standards to accommodate more
on street parking
Limit multiple-family tandem spaces
0-20 units: 20% max
21-40 units: 30% max
>40 units: 40% max
Revise bedroom definition
Next Steps
Receive input and direction from Planning
Commission
Prepare Zoning Code Amendment for
Planning Commission and City Council
review and adoption
