AGENDA ACTION TAKEN
1. CALL TO ORDER: Chair Hamida called the meeting to order at 6:36 p.m.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Vice Chair Daniels.
3. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: Jordan Williams, resident of Anaheim, requested the Commission to
consider installing an art mural at Sage Park.
4. SCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: None.
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Chair Hamida presented the June 20, 2019 minutes to the Commissioners for changes
or corrections. Vice Chair Daniels made a motion to approve the June 20, 2019 minutes, seconded by Commissioner
Camargo. There were four votes in favor to approve the minutes; Chair Hamida accepted the minutes.
NEW BUSINESS:
a) Mural Proposal: Chair Hamida provided a brief overview of the proposed Mural Proposal and reported she is working
with the community to find more information to add to the proposal. A proposal will be presented to the Commission
in October. Commissioner Camargo reported he will share artist information with the Commission and also
recommended to complete grant applications. Vice Chair questioned the recommended art mural at Sage Park by
resident, Jordin Williams. A discussion was held by the Commission and staff regarding a possible mural at Sage
Park and other City parks that are community driven.
b) Selection of Chair: Chair Hamida was nominated for Chair; four votes were received in favor. Chair Hamida will
remain as Chair.
c) Selection of Vice Chair: Vice Chair Daniels was nominated for Vice Chair; four votes were received in favor. Vice
Chair Daniels will remain as Vice Chair.
7. SUB -COMMITTEES:
a) Center Gallery: Holly Unruh reported the next two slots are open for an art exhibit and applications have been
received. The Commission was also encouraged to invite known artists to apply. Holly then introduced Shaunna
Hunter, Community Services Supervisor, who shared that various art that includes sculptures, small paintings and
large paintings are allowed to be displayed as an exhibit at the Center Gallery.
b) Public Art Program: Holly Unruh reported the City ordinance was passed and the process is ongoing.

c) Poet Laureate: Holly Unruh reported the Poet Laureate, Grant Hier, will serve through April 2020. The selection
process for the next Poet Laureate has begun by the committee. The new Poet Laureate will be recommended in
December 2019 or January 2020 in order to work with Grant Hier before the position is instated in April.
d) Heritage: Vice Chair Daniels reported the 4 previous City Hall building locations were recommended to have a
historic marker placed onsite and continues to research for other possible locations.
e) Culture: None.
INFORMATIONAL ITEMS: Commissioner Camargo reported "Canto de Anaheim" will take place on August 31St at the
Pearson Park Amphitheatre.
Holly Unruh shared the current Fall Anaheim Activity Guide, the Anaheim Community News, and flyers for Canto de
Anaheim and Summer Nights Under the Stars.
Holly Unruh reported Council Member Kring has requested for the City to revert back to the prior City flag and Council
Member Moreno has requested input from the Commission. This item will be placed on the next Commission Agenda.
Jane Newell reported the "I Am an American" exhibit will open at the MUZEO on August 24th and invited the Commission
to attend.
Commissioner Camargo attended the Decolonizing Mental Health Event on August 101h at the La Colonia Community
Center in Anaheim.
9. ADJOURNMENT: Chair Hamida adjourned the meeting at 7:30 p.m.
