A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ANAHEIM IN SUPPORT OF CALIFORNIA CLEAN AIR DAY
AND ITS GOALS.
WHEREAS,health officials indicate that air pollution contributes to higher rates of
cancer and heart and lung diseases,which adversely affect health; and
WHEREAS,health officials indicate that compromised lung health has been linked
to poor outcomes in people infected with COVID-19; and
WHEREAS, California has some of the most polluted air quality regions in the
United States; and
WHEREAS,according to a new nationwide study from Harvard T.H. Chan School
of Public Health,early studies find that people with COVID-19 who live in U.S.regions with high
levels of air pollution are more likely to die from the disease than people who live in less polluted
areas; and
WHEREAS, it is vital that we protect the health and well-being of our residents,
visitors, workforce, and community at large; and
WHEREAS, emissions from vehicles, industry, and even household sources
significantly affect the natural environment, air quality and well-being of residents, employees,
and visitors of the City of Anaheim; and
WHEREAS, individual actions such as not idling vehicles, walking or biking to
work and school,carpooling,and conserving energy can directly improve air quality in our region;
and
WHEREAS,City of Anaheim employees,residents, and businesses can play a role
in improving air quality; and
WHEREAS,taking the pledge and participating in California Clean Air Day related
activities can be accomplished safely while wearing face coverings, practicing social distancing,
and following health guidelines; and
WHEREAS, education about air quality can raise community awareness,
encourage our communities to develop environmentally healthier habits, and improve our
communities' well-being; and
WHEREAS, Californians will be joining together across the state to improve air
quality during October; and
WHEREAS, the City of Anaheim is committed to the health of our residents,
workforce,visitors, and community at large.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of
Anaheim as follows:
1. The City Council of the City of Anaheim declares October 7, 2020 to be
"California Clean Air Day."
2. The City Council of the City of Anaheim supports the concept of the California
Clean Air Day.
3. The City Council of the City of Anaheim hereby authorizes City departments
with greenhouse gas mitigation reporting responsibilities to determine how
their staff and members of the public can support the activities and goals of the
California Clean Air Day, as appropriate, and report on those activities as part
of on-going or new greenhouse gas mitigation-related reports provided to the
City Council.
4. The City Council of the City of Anaheim encourages all residents, businesses,
employees,and community members to participate in activities that support the
goals of the California Clean Air Day and help improve air quality for all
Californians.
THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION was approved and adopted by the City Council
of the City of Anaheim at a regular meeting of said City Council held on the 6th day of October,
2020,by the following roll call vote:
AYES: Mayor Sidhu and Council Members Faessel , Barnes, Brandman,
Moreno, Kring, and O' Neil
