General (12) Public Comment From:Amy Hammerschlag < Sent:Saturday, October 24, 2020 4:47 PM To:Public Comment Subject:Illegal fireworks Dear Mayor Sidhu and esteemed council members, While I understand you have much larger issues to contend with, I am writing for something smaller of which you can control the outcome. I am writing for the significant and pervasive noise disturbances caused throughout the year in the city of Anaheim by residents setting off fireworks on days that are not sanctioned for fireworks use. I am writing to you now, on October 24th, as three loud rockets were just set off near my apartment that caused my windows to rattle. I also live close to Downtown Anaheim, so I am sure you also have heard the fireworks at inappropriate times and dates. The blatant disregard for well being of neighbors, children, and their pets is so incredibly disrespectful and the Anaheim PD is overrun with calls when fireworks go off unexpectedly, which is a huge waste of city resources. While I realize that when Disneyland is open we have those fireworks to contend with, it is much more palatable because at least we know the days and times the fireworks are shown. However, the residents that clearly only care about themselves are shooting off fireworks whenever they want, sometimes even throwing them out of cars at residents' homes, with very little that can be done by the Anaheim PD to stifle this activity. I have talked to other residents who do their due diligence and call the police, but nothing is done because the police have to physically see the residents setting off the fireworks, and they are smart enough to be sneaky about it. I would like to ask the council to take further action and consider banning fireworks entirely within the city of Anaheim, or consider differing ways to counter the illegal activity that is more effective at stopping it from happening. This activity is so persistent that I am considering moving out of the area. Thank you for taking the time to consider this issue, despite all of the other larger concerns. Sincerely, Amy Hammerschlag 1
