1. CALL TO ORDER: Vice Chair Daniels called the meeting to order at 6:31 p.m.
2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Commissioner Uyematsu.
3. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: Anaheim residents, David Garcia, Diana Merino, and Mazatl Tecpatl
Tepehyolotzin, shared information in establishing the Indigenous Peoples Day as the second Monday in October every
year. Vice Chair Daniels proposed this item to be agendized on the next Commission Agenda.
Jordan Williams, Anaheim resident, thanked the staff and the Commission for collaborating and installing art murals in the
City.
4. SCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: None.
5. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Vice Chair Daniels presented the September 19, 2019 minutes to the Commissioners
for changes or corrections. Vice Chair Daniels made a motion to approve the September 19, 2019 minutes, seconded by
Commissioner Camargo. There were five votes in favor to approve the minutes; Vice Chair Daniels accepted the
minutes.
6. SUB-COMMITTEES:
a) Center Gallery: Holly Unruh invited the Commission to visit the current exhibit in the Center Gallery. The sub-
committee was also asked to meet and review new applications received for the Center Gallery.
Chair Hamida arrived to the meeting and Vice Chair Daniels handed over the gavel to Chair Hamida to run the
remainder of the meeting.
b) Public Art Program: Holly Unruh reported the City will soon be seeking proposals for consultants to develop a
comprehensive Public Art Plan. Once the input process for the plan begins, the subcommittee will be notified and
included in the process.
Chair Hamida requested for the Mural Art Program Proposal to be agendized on the next Commission Agenda.
c) Poet Laureate: Holly Unruh encouraged the Commission to invite colleagues to apply for the Poet Laureate position.
The application process deadline is November 15th.

Commissioner Camargo stated he is promoting the Poet Laureate position through colleges and writing programs.
The selection committee will have a recommendation ready for the Commission at the January meeting.
d) Heritage: Vice Chair Daniels reported the sub-committee will be meeting in November to discuss the heritage
markers. Vice Chair Daniels also recommended that the art mural in City Hall be moved from the second floor to the
lobby.
e) Culture: Commissioner Squitier reported on the notes previously handed out to the Commission in October which
address the quality of areas throughout the City that include parks, streets/sidewalks, the resort area, etc. A
discussion was held by the Commission regarding amenities that are not installed in certain areas throughout the
City. Chair Hamida recommended this information be shared with the Parks and Recreation Commission. Holly
Unruh also recommended that Commissioners reach out to fellow Commissioners (Parks and Recreation or Planning
Commission) or to their Council Member to discuss this information. Commissioner Uyematsu encouraged the
Commission to complete the survey on the Anaheim First website to input information to improve Anaheim
neighborhoods.
7. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS: Commissioner Camargo reported the Central Library will be having an art mural event and
will forward information to staff to send out to the Commission.
Vice Chair Daniels reported the Fall Festival and Halloween Parade will be held on October 26th in downtown Anaheim.
Holly Unruh reported the following:
“Meet on Beach” event will be held on November 17th.
“Beauty Beneath the Rubble” exhibit will be displayed at the MUZEO from October 26th through January 5, 2020.
Jane Newell reported the following:
School field trips have begun at Founders Park and will be scheduled on Thursdays and Fridays throughout the
school year until May 2020.
Orange County Archives Bazaar is scheduled for October 26th at Chapman University.
8. ADJOURNMENT: Chair Hamida adjourned the meeting at 7:43 p.m.
