Larsen, Germaine Neumann and LaShé Rodriguez COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Kevin Barrot, Brian O’Neal and Anna Piercy (Two vacant seats) STAFF PRESENT: Kimberly Kelemen, Community Services Maggie Solorio, City Manager’s Office GUESTS PRESENT: None Agenda Posting: A complete copy of the Anaheim Sister City Commission Agenda was posted on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Anaheim City Hall. Public Input: Chair Taline Cole explained that members of the public are invited to address the Anaheim Sister City Commission and will be called upon under Agenda Item No. VII. Public Comment. I.CALL TO ORDER Chair Taline Cole called the meeting of the Anaheim Sister City Commission (ASCC) to order at 4:07 p.m. on Monday, November 25, 2019 at the Anaheim City Manager’s Office, City Hall, 200 S. Anaheim Blvd., Seventh Floor, Anaheim, California. II.FLAG SALUTE Commissioner James Dinwiddie led the Flag Solute. III.APPROVAL OF MINUTES MOTION: Commissioner Paul Anderson offered a Motion, seconded by Commissioner Larry Larsen AND MOTION CARRIED (Vote: 9-0; Absent: Kevin Barrot, Brian O’Neal, and Anna Piercy; Abstained: LaShé Rodriguez; and, ITEM # 01 Anaheim Sister City Commission November 25, 2019 Page 2 two vacant seats) that the Anaheim Sister City Commission does hereby approve the minutes from the ASCC meeting held on October 28, 2019 as presented. IV. APPROVAL OF TREASURER’S REPORT Treasurer James Dinwiddie presented the Treasurer’s Report dated November 20, 2019 with a balance of $13,127.30 and noted that during the last month there was a reimbursement in the amount of $46.95 to Jessica Montes, the exchange student teacher, for the purchase of some frames and cards. MOTION: Commissioner Emily Fuentes offered a Motion, seconded by Commissioner Steven Kleine AND MOTION CARRIED (Vote: 10-0; Absent: Kevin Barrot, Brian O’Neal and Anna Piercy; and, two vacant seats) that the Anaheim Sister City Commission does hereby approve the Treasurer’s Report dated November 20, 2019 as presented. V. MITO STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM Commissioner Paul Anderson gave an update on families that are interested in hosting Mito Exchange Students this summer. He also announced that Ted White has a contact in Vitoria-Gasteiz that can possibly reconnect the Commission with Vitoria-Gasteiz. Commissioner Steven Klein is in charge of collecting applications from students interested in participating in the Outbound Student Exchange in the summer. He is going to set up the student meet and greet and the student interviews. The Commission is going to try to reach out to all the schools to make them aware of the program and get students to apply. The two focuses now are getting applications and getting host families. In a few months, the Commission will be focusing on the Inbound Student Exchange and putting together a schedule. VI. FUNDRAISER Chair Taline Cole reported there are 21 tickets sold so far for the fundraiser that is going to take place at the Anaheim Brewery on December 9. The caterer needs the final count a week before the event. She will need to know the total number of attendees by Friday, November 29. Commissioner Larry Larsen brought the framed pictures that the Mito Delegation presented to Commission and Council at the luncheon in October. He has since been in communication with Mayor Sidhu and Council Member Faessel advising them they were going to auction them off at the fundraiser, but did not receive a response. Kimberly Kelemen is going to look into that and will follow-up and let the Commission know. Anaheim Sister City Commission November 25, 2019 Page 3 Chair Taline Cole advised that Commissioner Emily Fuentes is going to collect any donation items for the auction. So far, the Commission received Disney on Ice tickets, Monster Jam suite tickets and Ducks tickets from the City Council and City Manager’s Office. They are still looking for additional auction items, they need to further promote the event and sell more tickets. For a theme, they are going to go with a holiday theme. VII. PUBLIC COMMENT None. VIII. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS Larry Larsen reported the City has been contacted by Cebu City, the second largest city in the Philippines regarding their interest in establishing a sister city relationship. They mentioned a possible visit in December to discuss future possibilities. Chair Taline Cole announced that at the first meeting in January, they are going to put together a subcommittee that can assist in reviewing the cities that have expressed interest in having a sister city relationship and also to propose cities that could be a good match for Anaheim. Commissioner Lori Dinwiddie shared she is going to invite Sally Feldhaus to the next ASCC meeting so that she can share her experience of the trip she took recently to Germany as part of a delegation. They visited the city in Germany that the Commission was considering as a sister city. Commissioner Jim Dinwiddie invited the Commission to the Downtown Anaheim Tree Lighting that will take place on Saturday, December 7 at 6:00 p.m. Santa will be there between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. IX. STAFF COMMENTS Kimberly Kelemen advised that Greg is going to talk to Council about the frames donated by the Mito delegation and will get back to the Commission. X. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 4:57 p.m. to Monday, January 27, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. at the Anaheim City Hall, City Manager’s Office Large Conference Room.
